Arcadia

Arcadia (Greek: Αρκαδία, Arkadía) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the administrative region of Peloponnese. It is situated in the central and eastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It takes its name from the mythological character Arcas. In Greek mythology, it was the home of the god Pan. In European Renaissance arts, Arcadia was celebrated as an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness.

Geography

Arcadia has its present-day capital at Tripoli. It covers about 18% of the Peloponnese peninsula, making it the largest regional unit on the peninsula. Arcadia has a ski resort on Mount Mainalo, located about 20 km NW of Tripoli. Other mountains of Arcadia are the Parnon in the southeast and the Lykaion in the west.

The climate consists of hot summers and mild winters in the eastern part, the southern part, the low-lying areas and the central area at altitudes lower than 1,000 m. The area primarily receives rain during fall and winter months in the rest of Arcadia. Winter snow occurs commonly in the mountainous areas for much of the west and the northern part, the Taygetus area, the Mainalon.

Arcady (musical ensemble)

Arcady is a musical ensemble based in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Founded and directed by composer Ronald Beckett, the ensemble is committed to the recording and performance of Beckett’s music, having performed three operas and produced three CDs of the composer’s works.

Arcady is based on the principle of mentorship and combines young artists and people in the early stages of their careers with established professional instrumentalists and singers. The ensemble has also established a reputation for its energetic and imaginative performances of early music and is the regular chorus for Boris Brott’s National Academy Orchestra of Canada..

Junctions

Junctions is a software package by Transport Research Laboratory incorporating the ARCADY and PICADY modules which were previously separate programs. "Junctions 8" was the first integrated version.

ARCADY

ARCADY is the acronym for (Assessment of Roundabout Capacity And DelaY). This software, produced by the Transport Research Laboratory (UK), models traffic capacity, queues and delays at roundabouts. The software is largely based on empirical relationships between roundabout geometry and capacity, which were established as the result of extensive research carried out on existing roundabouts on the UK road network, as well as controlled test track facilities over a period of over a decade.

The program is used by traffic engineers when assessing existing layouts or when analysing the impacts of proposed design changes. Estimates of annual accident frequencies can also be obtained.
