Don Adams

Donald James Yarmy (April 13, 1923 – September 25, 2005), known professionally as Don Adams, was an American actor, comedian and director. In his five decades on television, he was best known as Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) in the television situation comedy Get Smart (1965–70, 1995), which he also sometimes directed and wrote. Adams won three consecutive Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Smart (1967–69). He provided the voices for the animated series Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales (1963–66) and Inspector Gadget (1983–85; as well as several revivals and spinoffs in the 1990s).

Early life

Adams was born in Manhattan, New York, son of William Yarmy, and his wife, Consuelo (Deiter). Adams and his brother Richard (who later became an actor, known as Dick Yarmy) were each raised in the religion of one parent: Don in the Roman Catholic faith of their mother, and Dick in the Jewish faith of their father.

Dropping out of New York City's DeWitt Clinton High School (comedian Larry Storch was a classmate), Adams worked as a theater usher. During World War II, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Adams participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His combat service was short-lived; he was shot and contracted blackwater fever, a serious complication of malaria, known for a 90% rate of fatality. He was evacuated and then hospitalized for more than a year at a Navy hospital in Wellington, New Zealand. After his recovery, he served as a Marine drill instructor in the United States.

Don "The Bull" Adams was a bare-knuckle boxer, from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, England. In addition he was known as King of the Gypsies. At least one of his fights was detected by the authorities. Hertfordshire Constabulary reported a planned fight at Holborn Stud Farm on Sunday, 26 October 1975, between Don “The Bull” Adams and Roy “Pretty Boy” Shaw, promoted by Adams’ trainer Tom “The Bear” Brown. Donny Adams's second for the fight was an Ex RAF policeman named Huw Rees. This fight was banned, but must have taken place later, as Shaw was reported later to have beaten Adams. Shaw won the bout in the first round. Before that fight Adams had 48 bare knuckle fights and won them all.

Don Lamar Adams (born November 27, 1947 – December 25, 2013) was an American professional basketball small forward. He was 6 ft 6 in 210 lb.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Adams attended Northwestern University and was selected in the 8th round of the 1970 NBA Draft by the San Diego Rockets. In his NBA career, Adams averaged 8.7 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game. In the ABA, Adams averaged 10.1 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game.

Don Adams (footballer)

Donald Frederick Adams (born 15 February 1931 in Northampton) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League, as a forward.

Don was the son of a former Northampton Town footballer by the name of Fred Adams who played in the 1920s, and lived in Clark Road Northampton, the garden backing onto the old county ground Don spent many hours as a youngster at the football ground, not only watching but also training. As a youth he played for a local youth team, the 6th Northampton company of the Boys Brigade based in Kingsley. Don was introduced to the Cobblers one day when attending an injury clinic and got talking to Jack Jennings who had Tommy Mulgrew under treatment at the time. Don explained that he was on amateur forms with Chelsea, so it was suggested that he went along to the cobblers for a trial when he was fit again. From this opportunity he progressed through the A team and reserves (who used to draw 6000 crowds back in those days) to eventually play his first game for the club as a professional against Plymouth Argyle. He made 23 appearances, scoring 7 goals. Don played for the cobblers from 1951 to 1956 and went on to play for Bedford town and Rushden town.
