8 Shenton Way

8 Shenton Way (Chinese: 八珊顿道;Chinese: Bā Shān Dùn Dǎo), formerly The Treasury and Temasek Tower, is the sixth tallest skyscraper in the city of Singapore, with at 234.7 m (770 ft). It is currently the tallest cylindrical building in the world. Built in 1986 as Treasury Building, it has 52 stories and is one of the prominent buildings in the business district. The tower houses 16 double deck elevators supplied by Otis. Singapore's present Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, once had his office in the building. The building was renamed to Temasek Tower (Chinese: 淡马锡大厦) when the Ministry of Finance relocated to The Treasury on High Street. Advertising agency BBDO Worldwide hosts its Asia Pacific Headquarters in there.

In April 2007, CapitaLand sold Temasek Tower to MGP Raffle Pte Ltd. Temasek Tower is now known as the AXA Tower.

The building houses the Embassy of Belgium on the 14th floor.

Architecture

The structure consists of steel beams cantilevered from a cylindrical concrete core. This allows full 360° views at the perimeter, unobstructed by perimeter columns.

Shenton Way

Shenton Way (Chinese: 珊顿道) is a major trunk road in Singapore's central business district, most known for the commercial skyscrapers flanking both sides of the road. The road is a one-way street which starts at the junction of Cross Street, Central Boulevard and Raffles Quay and ends at Keppel Road. Built almost entirely on reclaimed land in what was once the Telok Ayer Basin, it was named after Sir Shenton Thomas, Governor of Singapore 1934–1946, to commemorate his decision to stay in the city during the Japanese occupation of Singapore.

Officially opened in 1951, it became known as Singapore's Wall Street when commercial developments and government officers were built there from the 1970s onwards, and continues to be a prime commercial address almost on par with that of Raffles Place today.

Shenton

Shenton is a hamlet in Leicestershire.

It is the southern terminus of the Battlefield Line Railway, which runs to Shenton from Shackerstone. The station is located at the foot of Ambion Hill and is actually the reconstructed Humberstone Road Station from Leicester. The original station was demolished in the 1940s, except for a small lamp room that now serves as the Station Pottery.

Admiral Sir Alexander Dundas Young Arbuthnott is buried in the graveyard.

It is a short drive from the M1 motorway. It is close to the site of the Battle of Bosworth, which took place south of Market Bosworth.
