Ceres (/ˈsɪəriːz/;minor-planet designation: 1 Ceres) is the largest object in the asteroid belt that lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Its diameter is approximately 945 kilometers (587 miles), making it the largest of the minor planets within the orbit of Neptune. The thirty-third-largest known body in the Solar System, it is the only one identified orbiting entirely within the orbit of Neptune that is a dwarf planet. Composed of rock and ice, Ceres is estimated to comprise approximately one third of the mass of the entire asteroid belt. Ceres is the only object in the asteroid belt known to be rounded by its own gravity. From Earth, the apparent magnitude of Ceres ranges from 6.7 to 9.3, and hence even at its brightest, it is too dim to be seen with the naked eye, except under extremely dark skies.
Ceres was the first asteroid discovered, by Giuseppe Piazzi at Palermo on 1 January 1801. It was originally considered a planet, but was reclassified as an asteroid in the 1850s when many other objects in similar orbits were discovered.
The Ceres Workstation was a computer built by Niklaus Wirth's group around 1985. Ceres was a workstation based on the NS320xx a CPU by National Semiconductor. Ceres was a follow-up project to the Lilith, a machine based on AMD bit-slice technology and the programming language Modula-2. The operating system of Ceres, called "The Oberon System" was completely written in the programming language Oberon. It is an early example of an object oriented operating system utilizing garbage collection on the system level.
On the same hardware Clemens Szyperski implemented as part of his PhD an operating system, called ETHOS, which was taking full advantage of object oriented technologies. According to a posting of Clemens Szyperski on usenet the BlackBox Component Builder, formerly known as Oberon/F, incorporates many of his ideas and principles.
In ancient Roman religion, Ceres /ˈsɪəriːz/ (Latin: Cerēs [ˈkɛreːs]) was a goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships. She was originally the central deity in Rome's so-called plebeian or Aventine Triad, then was paired with her daughter Proserpina in what Romans described as "the Greek rites of Ceres". Her seven-day April festival of Cerealia included the popular Ludi Ceriales (Ceres' games). She was also honoured in the May lustratio of the fields at the Ambarvalia festival, at harvest-time, and during Roman marriages and funeral rites.
Ceres is the only one of Rome's many agricultural deities to be listed among the Dii Consentes, Rome's equivalent to the Twelve Olympians of Greek mythology. The Romans saw her as the counterpart of the Greek goddess Demeter, although Triptolemus was the god of farming whose mythology was reinterpreted for Ceres in Roman art and literature.
Ceres' name derives from the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European root *ḱerh₃-, meaning "to satiate, to feed", which is also the root for Latin crescere "to grow" and through it, the English words create and increase. Roman etymologists thought ceres derived from the Latin verb gerere, "to bear, bring forth, produce", because the goddess was linked to pastoral, agricultural and human fertility. Archaic cults to Ceres are well-evidenced among Rome's neighbours in the Regal period, including the ancient Latins, Oscans and Sabellians, less certainly among the Etruscans and Umbrians. An archaic Faliscan inscription of c. 600 BC asks her to provide far (spelt wheat), which was a dietary staple of the Mediterranean world. Throughout the Roman era, Ceres' name was synonymous with grain and, by extension, with bread.
Sure may refer to:
Sure, a trading brand of Batelco, is a telecommunications company in the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, the Falkland Islands, St. Helena, Ascension Island, and the British Indian Ocean Territory. Sure is the largest tri-island mobile operator across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
The international division of Cable & Wireless plc bought Guernsey Telecoms from the States of Guernsey in 2002, rebranding as Sure in July 2007. Cable & Wireless opened an office in Jersey in 2004, offering corporate telecoms products. It launched the Sure brand along with mobile services in September 2006. In the same year the company launched fixed line products (FirstDial Home and Business, later re-branded as SureDial Home & Business). In July 2007 Sure launched mobile services in the Isle of Man. In 2008 the company secured a fixed licence and introduced fixed line products (SureDial Home & Business), as well as High Speed Mobile Broadband utilising HSDPA technology. It launched fixed broadband services in the third quarter of 2009.
"Sure" is a single by British boy band Take That, released as the lead single from their third studio album Nobody Else (1995). Released on 3 October 1994, it was a departure from their previous singles, having a more American, R&B sound compared to their previous, more pop/dance orientated songs. It was written by Take That's lead singer Gary Barlow with contributions from fellow band members Robbie Williams and Mark Owen. The song has received a silver disc certification and sold over 215,000 copies in the UK.
The music video was seven minutes long and is somewhat comical. It shows the band preparing for a party whilst Mark Owen is also babysitting a disruptive little girl Emma who is halting the band from getting ready. Gary Barlow is writing a song, Jason Orange is dancing, Howard Donald is preparing food and Robbie Williams emerges back from shopping. Once the song starts, the video shows a house party occurring as well as the band performing the song in vest nets against a blue backdrop.
[Mekada Davis]
Oh, hmm, oh
You know what he said to me last night
(What did he say?)
It wasn't right
That's why I'm leaving
(You should be leaving)
Talking 'bout how he wish he left me
(for real?)
A long time ago, oh
[Mya]
Well you know it's easy to break a young girl's heart
But now you're getting older
Your heart is getting colder, yeah
And when you talk to him
I know his voice sounded a little sweeter
Cut the bullshit, I can't fall for it no more
[Mekada]
For sure
I was all the woman he needed
In his life
But he fucked that up
[Mya]
For sure
You're was all the woman he needed
In his life
But he fucked that up
[Mya](Jagged Edge)
Hello?
(Hey put Mekada on the phone)
Still calling here?
(Yeah I'm calling there, what you doing there?)
She don't wanna talk to you
(What do you mean she don't wanna talk to me?)
(You better put her on the phone)
You know what you said to her last night
Oh you forgot?
It wasn't right
That's why she's leaving
(Why is she leaving)
Yelling out to her you wouldn't be back to (ooh)
To see her no more, ooh
[Jagged Edge]
Tell her I'm sorry
Cause I never meant to go and break her heart
Don't wanna fall apart
[Mekada]
And I've decided I don't want you no more baby
[Mekada]
For sure
I was all the woman he needed
In his life
But he fucked that up
[Mya]
For sure
You're was all the woman he needed
In his life
But he fucked that up
[Jagged Edge]
(if you really want me baby)
You know that
It takes two
(it takes two)
You can't put it all on me girl
(put it all girl)
You was doing your thing too girl
If everything was wrong
Tell me why you stayed with me so long, yeah
To tell the truth
You ain't really all that

In his life
