4265 Kani

4265 Kani, provisional designation 1989 TX, is a carbonaceous asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, about 14 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by Japanese astronomers Yoshikane Mizuno and Toshimasa Furuta at Kani Observatory (403) on 8 October 1989. The C-type asteroid orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.9–2.9 AU once every 3 years and 9 months (1,382 days). Its orbit shows an eccentricity of 0.20 and an inclination of 4 degrees from the plane of the ecliptic.

Photometric observations of this asteroid carried out from Golden Hill Observatory in Stourton Caundle and Palmer Divide Observatory in Colorado Springs, Colorado produced a light-curve with a rotation period for the asteroid of 7000572790000000000♠5.7279±0.0001 hours and a brightness variation of 0.75 ± 0.02 in magnitude (U=3-). Observations at the Palomar Transient Factory and revised shape-models have since confirmed the body's rotation period.

According to the surveys carried out by the Japanese Akari satellite and the NEOWISE mission of NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, the asteroid measures 15.7 and 14.2 kilometers in diameter, respectively. Conversely, the Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link calculates a diameter of only 7.5 kilometers, due to an assumed albedo of 0.20, which is untypically high for carbonaceous asteroids.

Surimi

Surimi (Japanese: 擂り身, すり身, literally "ground meat") refers to a paste made from fish or other meat, as well as multiple Asian foods that use surimi as its primary ingredient. It is available in many shapes, forms, and textures, and often used to mimic the texture and color of the meat of lobster, crab, and other shellfish.

The most common surimi product in the Western market is imitation crab meat. Such a product often is sold as krab, imitation crab and mock crab in the United States, and as seafood sticks, crab sticks, fish sticks or seafood extender in Commonwealth nations. In Britain the product is sometimes known as Ocean sticks, to avoid breaching trading standards rules on false advertising.

History

The process for making surimi was developed in many areas of East Asia over several centuries though the exact history and origins of this product are unclear. In China, the food was used to make fish balls (魚蛋/魚丸) and ingredients in a thick soup known as "Geng" (羹) common in Fujian cuisine. In Japan, it is used in the making of numerous kamaboko, fish sausage, or cured surimi products.
