Malt liquor

Malt liquor, in North America, is beer with high alcohol content. Legally, it often includes any alcoholic beverage with 5% or more alcohol by volume made with malted barley. In common parlance, it is used for high-alcohol beers (6–7% and more) or beer-derived mixes made with ingredients and processes resembling those in American-style lager. This label is subject to the viewpoint of the brewer, and there are examples of brews containing high-quality, expensive ingredients that brewers have chosen to label as "malt liquors."

In parts of Canada, the term "malt liquor" (French: liqueur de malt) is used to refer to any malt beverages in general.

Manufacture

Malt liquor is a strong lager or ale in which sugar, corn or other adjuncts are added to the malted barley to boost the total amount of fermentable sugars in the wort, and thus boost the final alcohol concentration without creating a heavier or sweeter taste. These beers tend to be mildly hopped; that is, they are not very bitter.

Commercial performance

The album debuted at number 86 on the Billboard 200, with over 6,000 copies sold in the first week.

Critical reception

The album was critically panned worldwide. An NME writer gave the album a negative review, stating "even if I caught Prince Harry and Gary Glitter adorned in Nazi regalia defecating through my grandmother's letterbox I would still consider making them listen to this album too severe a punishment."Kerrang! also gave the album a negative review, stating that "I'm Not a Fan... boasts a self-aware title, but that's where all trace of intelligence ends." Allmusic's review was more moderate, noting that although the album displays an "irresponsible attitude toward drinking, women, and songwriting", it also boasts "silly energy" and "some great ideas conceived in a high-school hallway."

The album is often regarded as one of the worst albums of all time.

D12 World

D12 World is the second studio album by Detroit hip hop group D12, released on April 27, 2004. The album sold 544,000 copies in its first week on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album is the last D12 album to feature Proof before his death in 2006, and the second D12 album to feature "Bugz" on a track.

Background

In memory of Bugz, who was killed prior to a concert on May 21, 1999, the group recorded the track "Good Die Young" in memory of him. The album also includes a song entitled "Bugz '97", which is a 1997 recording of Bugz, originally taken from the song "Desperados". The band was often overshadowed by Eminem's massive success, and as such, the band toured without him for promotion of the album (but the album still reached the top of the US Billboard chart). At the time, Eminem was busy recording Encore. Although shadowed by Eminem's success, members Bizarre and Proof managed to prevail with mildly successful solo careers following D12 World, with the releases of Hannicap Circus and Searching for Jerry Garcia in 2005. Before the album's release, "6 in the Morning" was featured on Eminem's 2003 mixtape Straight from the Lab and was entitled "Come On In".
