The Script is an Irish pop rock band formed in 2001. The band comprises guitarist and vocalist Danny O'Donoghue, guitarist and vocalist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power. Based in London after signing to Sony Label Group imprint Phonogenic, the band released its eponymous debut album, The Script, in August 2008, featuring the hit songs "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" and "Breakeven (Falling to Pieces)". The album peaked at number one in Ireland and the UK. Their next three albums, Science & Faith (2010), #3 (2012) and No Sound Without Silence (2014), all topped the album charts in Ireland and the UK, while Science & Faith reached number three in the US. Hit singles from the albums include "For the First Time", "Nothing", "Hall of Fame" and "Superheroes".

The Script's music has been featured in popular television programmes such as 90210, Ghost Whisperer, The Hills, Waterloo Road, EastEnders, Made in Chelsea and The Vampire Diaries. Frontman Danny O'Donoghue was also a coach on The Voice UK for seasons 1 and 2, before leaving the show in order to focus more on the band. The band has won three Meteor Ireland Music Awards, two World Music Awards and have received two Brit Award nominations.

The Script (album)

The Script is the Choice Music Prize-nominated self-titled debut album from Irish band The Script, which was released in the Republic of Ireland on 8 August 2008 and was released in the UK on 11 August 2008 by Phonogenic Records. Following success in the Republic of Ireland, the album was released elsewhere in Europe in September 2008. The album topped the UK charts and peaked at #64 on the US Billboard 200 on 4 March 2010.

Reception

The album was met with mixed reviews by music critics. Timothy Powell of the BBC stated that the album "reveals a band that is fresh, vital and ferociously good." He went on to say that the Script are now positioned as "next big thing" and that the album entails "hip-hop, pop melodiousness, state-of-the-art production and anthemic rock." His overall summary was that the album is "Intelligent, beautifully crafted and compelling." Nick Levine of Digital Spy gave the album 3/5 stars while saying it was often "devastatingly effective" and that "A lot of people are going to hate the Script, a lot of people are going to love the Script." The German WOM magazin monthly went as far as writing: "Eigenständing und originell ist anders. The Script bringen die Misere der Musikindustrie auf den Punkt. (Independent and original [music] is different. The Script points out the music industry's demise.)" The album has mixed reviews in MTV Asia, which has praised "O'Donoghue's vocals are a pleasurably unique aural experience" though it also comments that, as a whole, "the album plays across a flat plane, with no big leaps, but no huge letdowns either." Allmusic's Alexey Eremenko said that the album was "not reckless or fuzzy enough [to be] power pop"; instead the closest discernible influence was the rock style of U2.

3 (The Script album)

#3 is the third studio album released by Irish pop rock trio, The Script. The album was released in Ireland on 7 September 2012, in the United Kingdom on 10 September and in the United States on 9 October. The album was preceded by the release of the single "Hall of Fame", a duet with Danny O'Donoghue's co-judge on The Voice UK, will.i.am. The album opened at #2 in the United Kingdom, and #13 in the United States, selling 24,002 copies.

Background

The band announced via their official Twitter account on 2 June 2012, that recording on their third studio album was complete, and that the title of the album would be #3. They also stated that the album was due for release on 17 September 2012, however, it was later revealed that the release date would be pushed forward by a week to 10 September. O'Donoghue later revealed on 8 July that the title of the lead single would be "Hall of Fame", and that the track would debut on radio on 23 July. He also revealed that the track was recorded in Los Angeles, and will be available for digital download on 19 August. The single also features vocals from O'Donoughue close friend and fellow The Voice UK coach will.i.am. The majority of the album was recorded in London's Sphere Studios, once again working with longtime collaborators Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner. The album's track listing was confirmed by Digital Spy on 8 August 2012. The deluxe edition of the album contains a bonus disc, containing two previously unreleased tracks, four live tracks and two alternative versions of "Hall of Fame", the second of which is a hidden track. Digital Spy also revealed the album's artwork on the same date.
