2nd Canadian Division

The 2nd Canadian Division (2 Can Div) is responsible for Canadian Army operations in the Canadian province of Quebec. The present command was created 2013 when Land Force Quebec Area was redesignated. The division draws its historical lineage from formations that existed during the First and Second World Wars.

During the First World War, the division fought on the Western Front before being disbanded in 1919. It was reformed on 1 September 1939, as part of the First Canadian Army, at the outbreak of the Second World War, adopting the designation "2nd Canadian Infantry Division". It was initially composed of volunteers within brigades established along regional lines, though a halt in recruitment in the early months of the war caused a delay in the formation of brigade and divisional headquarters. With questions concerning overseas deployment resolved, the division's respective commands were formed in May and June 1940, and at British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's request, the division was deployed to the United Kingdom between 1 August and 25 December 1940.

1st Canadian Division

The 1st Canadian Division is an operational command and control formation of the Canadian Army, based at CFB Kingston.

Formed during the First World War in August 1914, the 1st Canadian Division was a formation of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The division was initially made up from provisional battalions that were named after their province of origin but these titles were dropped before the division arrived in Britain on 14 October 1914. Following the war, the division was stood down only to be remobilized as a formation on 1 September 1939 as the 1st Canadian Infantry Division for service in the Second World War. The division was also reactivated twice during the Cold War.

In 2010, the division was reactivated for a third time. While the remaining four divisions of the Canadian Army are responsible for command of the units within their respective geographic regions, the 1st Canadian Division was formed to serve as headquarters unit of any deployable division-level formation of the Canadian Army.
