Paradise Cafe

Paradise Cafe (パラダイス・カフェ Paradaisu Kafe)" is the 23rd studio album by Japanese singer-songwriter Miyuki Nakajima, released in October 1996. The album includes a new recording of her 1995 chart-topping hit "Wanderer's Song", and also features her own interpretation of "Lie to Me Eternally" which was originally written for Long Time No See album recorded by Takuro Yoshida.

Following massive success of a single "Wanderer's Song" which sold over 1 million units, Paradise Cafe immediately gained Platinum award by the RIAJ for shipments of over 400,000 copies. However, the album itself apparently sold beneath expectations, staying briefly on charts and selling approximately 200,000 units in total.

Café Paradis (English Title: Paradise Cafe) is a Danish film made in 1950, directed by Bodil Ipsen and Lau Lauritzen Jr., and written by Johannes Allen. The film received the Bodil Award for Film of the Year, and Ib Schønberg, for what is regarded his finest performance, received the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The story illuminates the problems of alcoholism as it follows the lives of two people: one is a common workman (played by Poul Reichhardt) who drinks too much beer, and the other is a company director (played by Ib Schønberg), who believes he just needs "a little one every now and then." They both come to face the consequences of their addictions.

    2:00 AM Paradise Cafe

2:00 AM Paradise Cafe is the fourteenth album by singer-songwriter Barry Manilow. The album was a radical departure from Manilow's previous work of highly polished pop. Manilow wrote in the liner notes that the record's concept came to him in a dream. Johnny Mercer's widow, Ginger, entrusted Manilow with a cache of Mercer's lyrics that had never been set to music. Although Manilow used only Mercer's "When October Goes" for the project, he created an album of all original songs with a torchy, smokey jazz style. He recruited veteran jazz musicians Bill Mays, Gerry Mulligan, Shelly Manne, Mundell Lowe, and George Duvivier. Also enlisted for vocal duets were Mel Tormé and Sarah Vaughan. The entire album was rehearsed for three days, then recorded entirely live (in one take) without overdubs at Westlake Studio 'C' in Los Angeles, California and released in 1984.

The album went platinum for Manilow, and peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard 200.

    Paradise Cafe

    by: Barry Manilow

    The night is new
    The faces are friendly
    So have a few
    and let me play
Some new songs, some blue songs
    The mood is always right
every night at the Paradise Cafe
    The world outside
    may make its own madness
    But here we hide
    the world away
    No headlines, no deadlines
    we'll make them disappear
while you're here at the Paradise Cafe
    The room is kinda smokey
    The phone ain't workin'
The same old broken keys don't play
But no one seems to mind it
    'cause someone's buyin'
And we'll all get through one more day
Just me and you around the piano
Not much to do but dream away
So stay on, I'll play on
I'm all yours for a song
all night long at the Paradise Cafe
Forget the one who loved you
    then lied and left you
Forget the love you almost had
    But if you must remember
    the way it left you
We'll make it feel good to feel bad
Just me and you around the piano
Not much to do but dream away
So stay on, I'll play on
I'm all yours for a song
