22nd Century Media

22nd Century Media is a media company based in the southwest and northshore suburbs of Chicago. 22nd Century Media, founded in 2005, publishes 14 hyper-local weekly community newspapers. 22nd Century Media publications are delivered free to about 160,000 homes and business across the South West and North Shore Suburbs of Chicago and in Malibu, California and are supported completely by advertising revenues. In March 2005, Jack Ryan launched 22nd Century Media, a news media company dedicated to providing hyper-local news in both print and digital media formats.

Editorial policy

22nd Century Media's papers are focused solely on the coverage of their local news. Each is part of a new series of weekly hyperlocal newspapers that focus on micro-stories within a single community. They are composed of four main sections: News, Sports, Local Living, and Life & Arts. 22nd Century Media publications believe in maintaining objectivity and neutrality in their news, life and arts, and sport sections. The company's papers do not typically endorse candidates nor ballot items.

Century Media Records is a rock music record label with offices in the United States, Germany and London. In August 2015, Century Media was acquired by Sony Music Entertainment for US$17 million.

Background

Century Media was founded by Robert Kampfi and Oliver Withöft in Dortmund, Germany in 1988 and has gone on to launch the careers of bands such as Architects, Butcher Babies, Diecast, Divine Heresy, Eyehategod, God Forbid, Iced Earth, In This Moment, Lacuna Coil, Moonspell, Nevermore, Shadows Fall, Suicide Silence, Warbringer, and Winds of Plague. The label specializes in many different styles of heavy metal music. A number of artists listed are licensed to Century Media for the American market from labels mostly based in Europe. Century Media is also home to Arch Enemy, Napalm Death, and Queensrÿche.

22nd Century is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, formed in 2007. 22nd Century's members include guitarist/vocalist Tim Plommer (Anthill, Little Green Planet), guitarist Jesus Krysler, bassist Duane Chaos (Stress Factor 9, Ace Koden, Driven Force, Centerfold) and drummer Zippy Pinhead (of hardcore punk bands D.O.A.,The Dils).

History

In the late 1980s, drummer Zippy Pinhead formed the Stiffs with Gerry Useless (who later formed the Subhumans) and Mike Normal; later forming “Sgt. Nick Penis and the Brassball Battalion” with D.O.A. founders Randy Rampage and Chuck Biscuits. Duane met Zippy and Randy while playing bass for soon to be star Chrissy Steele and became friends. Zippy went on to move to San Francisco to play with the influential band K.G.B. before returning to Vancouver to join D.O.A. Over the next six years, Zippy Pinhead shifted between Vancouver and California playing in some well known bands (The Dils, Art Bergman, The Mutants, Los Popularos, Black Molly’s, Beat Farmers and The Fiends.) and even appeared on music videos with Sheena Easton and Rick Springfield. Duane left the music scene for a while to pursue a career in professional cycling after leaving recording band Centerfold when the band’s funding vanished. He returned to music nearly a decade later after joining up with Wade Morissette, brother of Alanis Morissette, to play acoustic performances. During this time, Tim Plommer enjoyed success by co-founding a band called Anthill which had a radio single "Child of Ambition".
