1st Cavalry Division (United States)

The 1st Cavalry Division ("First Team") is one of the most decorated combat divisions of the United States Army, as well as the other four branches of the U.S. military. It is based at Fort Hood, Texas. It was formed in 1921 and served during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, with the Stabilization Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the Iraq War, and in the War in Afghanistan (2001–present). As of 2013, the 1st Cavalry Division is subordinate to III Corps and is commanded by Major General Michael Bills.

History

The history of the 1st Cavalry Division began in 1921 after the army established a permanent cavalry division table of organization and equipment on 4 April 1921. It authorized a square division organization of 7,463 officers and men, organized as follows:

The 1st Zaporozhye Червонного Cossack Cavalry Division (1st CD) - was a military formation in the cavalry in the Red Army, Soviet Armed Forces.

History

On May 6, 1922 8th Zaporozhye Cossack Cavalry Division, the 1st Cavalry Corps Red Cossacks them. All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee was named 1st Zaporozhye Cossack Cavalry Division. In May, MA Demichev was appointed the divisional commander.

In 1924 the 1st Corps headquarters was stationed in Vinnitsa. The divisional Commander was MA Demichev. The regiments were distributed to the 1st Cavalry Brigade (1st and 2nd Regiments), 2nd Cavalry Brigade ( 3rd kn, 4th kn), 3rd Cavalry Brigade (5th kn, 6th kn).

July 11, 1925 1st Zaporozhye pure Cossack Cavalry Division was given the title 1st Zaporozhye them. French Communist Red Cossacks Cavalry Division.

November 15, 1932 the commander of the 1st cd appointed IE Nikulin.

Cavalry division (Soviet Union)

One of the first cavalry divisions in the Red Army was the 1st Cavalry Division (Soviet Union) formed in 1922. In 1938 this formation became the 32nd Cavalry Division.

Organisation 1941

Regular Red Army cavalry divisions in 1941 had four cavalry regiments, a horse artillery battalion (eight 76mm guns and eight 122mm howitzers), a tank regiment (64 BT-series tanks), an anti-aircraft battalion (eight 76mm anti-aircraft guns and two batteries of AA machine guns), a signals squadron, a field engineer squadron and other rear echelon support units and sections.

A cavalry regiment, in turn, consisted of four sabre squadrons, a machine-gun squadron (16 heavy machine guns and four 82mm mortars), a regimental artillery battery (four 76mm and four 45mm of instrument), an anti-aircraft battery (three 37mm guns and three quadrupled Maxim machine guns).

The total authorized strength of a cavalry division included 8,968 personnel and 7,625 horses, the cavalry regiment respectively had 1,428 personnel and 1,506 horses. By 1943, a cavalry division was authorized 6,000 men and often organized into corps of three divisions that were reinforced by artillery, tank, and assault gun elements.

Cavalry Division (India)

The Cavalry Division was formed in 1916 during First World War by units of the British Army and the British Indian Army stationed in India for service in Mesopotamia in the Mesopotamia Campaign. The Division was broken up in 1918, but its brigades then served independently.
