Pre-arrival Review System

The Pre-arrival Review System (PARS) allows importers and brokers to submit release on minimum documentation (RMD) information to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for review and processing before their goods arrive in Canada. This speeds up the release or referral for examination process when the goods arrive in Canada.

When the shipment arrives at a border point of entry, the CBSA will release it within minutes unless an examination or further processing is required to meet another government department's regulation.

Importers using PARS must attach a bar-coded label to a bill of lading or commercial invoice. The label is encoded with the word PARS, an alphanumeric CBSA-assigned carrier code registered to the importing shipper, and a sequential number. The bar-coded label is scanned at the point of entry by the CBSA. If the shipment has been pre-approved, it is released for entry into Canada. If the shipment is not approved, or requires further inspection by a government agency, the shipment is not released.

Squash (sport)

Squash is a racket sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players must alternate in striking the ball with their racket and hit the ball onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court.

The game was formerly called squash rackets, a reference to the "squashable" soft ball used in the game (compared with the harder ball used in its sister game rackets).

Squash is recognized by the IOC and supporters are lobbying for its incorporation in a future Olympic program.

History

The use of stringed rackets is shared with tennis, which dates from the late sixteenth century, though is more directly descended from the game of rackets from England. In "rackets", instead of hitting over a net as in sports such as tennis, players hit a squeezable ball against walls.

Squash was invented in Harrow School out of the older game rackets around 1830 before the game spread to other schools, eventually becoming an international sport. The first courts built at this school were rather dangerous because they were near water pipes, buttresses, chimneys, and ledges. The school soon built four outside courts. Natural rubber was the material of choice for the ball. Students modified their rackets to have a smaller reach to play in these cramped conditions.

FNSS Pars

The Pars (Turkish for Anatolian Leopard) is an amphibious Armoured combat vehicle family with 6×6 and 8×8 versions, produced by FNSS Defence Systems of Turkey.

Development

The development of the PARS vehicles commenced in 2002, based on a design by US company GPV (General Purpose Vehicles), and in cooperation with GPV. PARS 6x6 is being proposed for the Turkish Army. PARS 8x8 was first displayed in February 2005 during the IDEX defence equipment exhibition held in Abu Dhabi. Since the first PARS vehicles were shown in 2005 development and further enhancements have been carried out on a continuous basis.

The PARS 8x8 vehicle was examined by the Malaysian Army in 2006 competing with the Swiss Piranha IIIC and the Finnish Patria AMV. It was demonstrated in the deserts of the UAE in 2008 covering 11,000km of desert and road trials. Further testing was again carried out in the UAE deserts in 2010. The PARS 8x8, fitted with a 25mm gun turret, was also successfully tested by another Middle Eastern country in the summer of 2010.
