Hay

Hay is grass, legumes, or other herbaceous plants that have been cut, dried, and stored for use as animal fodder, particularly for grazing animals such as cattle, horses, goats, and sheep. Hay is also fed to smaller animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs. Pigs may be fed hay, but they do not digest it as efficiently as more fully herbivorous animals.

Hay can be used as animal fodder when or where there is not enough pasture or rangeland on which to graze an animal, when grazing is unavailable due to weather (such as during the winter) or when lush pasture by itself is too rich for the health of the animal. It is also fed during times when an animal is unable to access pasture, such as when animals are kept in a stable or barn.

Composition

Commonly used plants for hay include mixtures of grasses such as ryegrass (Lolium species), timothy, brome, fescue, Bermuda grass, orchard grass, and other species, depending on region. Hay may also include legumes, such as alfalfa (lucerne) and clovers (red, white and subterranean). Legumes in hay are ideally cut pre-bloom. Other pasture forbs are also sometimes a part of the mix, though these plants are not necessarily desired as certain forbs are toxic to some animals.

"Hay" is the lead single from Crucial Conflict's debut album, The Final Tic. Produced by member Wildstyle, "Hay" became the group's only charting single and their breakthrough hit, peaking at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The single was certified gold by the RIAA on July 18, 1996, and helped the album reach gold status less than two months later. It appears to have a sample of Funkadelic's "I'll Stay" from the album Standing on the Verge of Getting It On.

Elaine is a song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA. It was used as the B-side to the 1980 single "The Winner Takes It All". It was not included on any of their original albums but was later included as a bonus track on Super Trouper.

Synopsis

The song is about a "devil-may-care path in pursuit of love".

Composition

ABBA: Let The Music Speak describes "Elaine" as a "bold and brazen up-tempo number", adding that it has a "wealth of treated synth effects". The pace remains the same throughout the song, and the intro has a "melodic riff that is squeezed and contorted over a series of suspended chords". This is followed by a "whistlable refrain". At the end of the second verse, the synths mimic the girls' voices.

Analysis

The song has a degree of programmatic irony, as the "extrevert nature" of the refrain juxtaposes "Agnetha and Frida's decisive and cutting unison stabs".

Critical reception

Abba - Uncensored on the Record says the song is "OK, in a rather frantic way", and adds that it "paled in comparison" to the song it was paired with in the single "The Winner Takes It All", widely regarded as the best song ABBA ever recorded.

The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the BBC soap opera EastEnders in 2006, by order of first appearance. 2006 was a year when many families joined EastEnders. First, Deano Wicks, his sister Carly Wicks and father Kevin Wicks joined. Then, the Fox family appeared, with the characters of Denise Fox, Chelsea Fox and Libby Fox as members. The Branning family was extended with Max Branning, Tanya Branning, Abi Branning and Lauren Branning all joining. Also, May Wright, Jay Brown and Shirley Carter, the biological mother of Deano and Carly, all joined the show. Also, Owen Turner, Denise's abusive ex-husband, and his mother Liz both arrived in this year.

Deano Wicks

Dean "Deano" Wicks, played by Matt Di Angelo, arrives in Walford and is taken in by Kevin's in-law Pat Evans (Pam St. Clement) after he lies that his father, Kevin Wicks (Phil Daniels), has died.
