ICM Registry

ICM Registry operates the .xxx (pronounced "dot triple-X") sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) registry, which is designed for pornography. The ICM Registry operates from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. It is owned by Stuart Lawley.

History

In 2005, the Bush Administration pressured ICANN not to adopt a .xxx rating on ideological grounds.

On 18 March 2011, the ICANN Board voted to approve the .xxx sTLD, which later went into operation on 15 April 2011.

On 12 April 2012, the ICM Registry announced their applications for additional sTLDs .SEX, .PORN and .ADULT.

Pornography

Pornography (often abbreviated as "porn" or "porno" in informal usage) is the portrayal of sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual arousal. Pornography may be presented in a variety of media, including books, magazines, postcards, photographs, sculpture, drawing, painting, animation, sound recording, film, video, and video games. The term applies to the depiction of the act rather than the act itself, and so does not include live exhibitions like sex shows and striptease. The Men of Porn toured with the Melvins on their "Double-Drumming Rock for Peace" tour at the end of 2006.

Porn 2.0

Porn 2.0, named after "Web 2.0", refers to pornographic websites featuring user-generated content. Sites may include social networking media including features such as user-based categorizing, webcam hosting, blogs and comments. This is in contrast to the static content offered by "Web 1.0" porn sites. Porn 2.0 sites may offer features similar to mainstream Web 2.0 services such as video communities (Metacafe, Vimeo, YouTube) and social sites (Tumblr, Twitter), general blogging, (Blogger, DailyBooth, Lookbook) and photo hosting (Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa).

Since their inception, Porn 2.0 Web sites have garnered great popularity, but have meanwhile encountered various legal and other difficulties. Among these difficulties are concern about the digital content copyright, trade media and affiliating partnership advertising. Other concerns include the idea of sharing vs. privacy in Security 2.0 and legal ramifications of large quantities of free, user-generated pornographic content on the Internet. To solve these problems temporarily, a method of implementation of zero-dollar charge credit card verification is implemented in MaxPorn and RTA & age verification consent in PornoTube respectively.

Progressive outer retinal necrosis

Progressive outer retinal necrosis, also known as Varicella zoster virus retinitis (VZVR), is an aggressive, necrotizing inflammation of the eye's retina caused by herpes varicella zoster virus. It is typically found in people with advanced AIDS, but has also been reported in those who are severely immunocompromised due to chemotherapy.

The majority of those with progressive outer retinal necrosis develop severe vision loss and blindness. Systemic antiviral drugs may improve the long-term visual outcome in those with the disease.
