The WIPO Academy is offering specialized continuing education to enhance the capacity of judicial training on IP institutions in delivering intellectual property (IP) knowledge. The specialized education plan was designed at the request of WIPO Member States and launched in Costa Rica, Lebanon, Nepal and Nigeria.

The WIPO Academy offers judicial education on IP based on the Academy’s general distance learning course on IP (DL-101). The version available for members of the judiciary has been developed and reviewed by a panel of experienced judges representing different regions and legal traditions.

The Distance Learning (DL) course on IP for judges is accessible worldwide and comprised of the following modules:

  • Module 1: Introduction to intellectual property (IP) rights
  • Module 2: Copyright and related rights
  • Module 3: Trademarks
  • Module 4: Patents
  • Module 5: Geographical indications
  • Module 6: Trade secrets / undisclosed information
  • Module 7: Industrial design
  • Module 8: Other topics on IP
  • Modular assessments
  • Certificate

Customized general distance learning courses on IP for judges

The WIPO Academy develops tailor-made modular continuing education and training content on IP, taking into consideration the identified needs and priorities of the beneficiary countries.

The customized learning content includes national laws, landmark court decisions on IP and other information requested by the beneficiary country. To ensure its sustainability, the project is implemented in cooperation with the relevant national judicial training institutions of the countries involved.
