Professor Emeritus Kim-Shyan Fam
I have 24 years of experience as an author, researcher, and lecturer. I was Professor in Marketing for 10 years and as Head of School for 4 years at Victoria University of Wellington, NZ. During my 24 years as a university lecturer (1996-2020), I have published 110 refereed journal publications co-authored 5 books, coined the concept “Chopsticks Marketing” (see Dictionary of Marketing by Penguin), and guest edited 8 special issues under the “Chopsticks/Confucian Marketing theme”. I was the Founding Editor of the Asian Journal of Business Research (SCOPUS), Founding Editor of the Journal of Halal Service Research, Founding Director of the Marketing in Asia Group (www.magscholar.com), and currently, Rector of McFam University, and Chair Professor in Marketing at Harbin University of Commerce, China. For services to education, I was made a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (2008), bestowed an honorary doctorate by Szechenyi Istvan University (2012), bestowed the prestigious Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship (Changbaishan Scholar 2017-19), and bestowed the Darjah Seri Melaka (Exalted Order of Malacca, 2019) state award by the Governor of Malacca, Malaysia. As a token of appreciation, a thoroughbred horse was gifted to me (2019) by a mentee in Mongolia. To top it all, I was able to fill my knowledge gap on the meaning of 'say something new in my field of study', a phrase, I was first introduced to by two PhD flatmates during my undergraduate years.
