Getting Here
The Visual Arts Center (VAC) is located on The University of Texas at Austin campus in the Art Building, which is directly north of the Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. From the corner of San Jacinto Blvd and DeLoss Dodds Way, enter the Art Building at the top of the concrete steps. The VAC is immediately inside.
Parking and Transportation
Garage Parking
Hourly-rate parking is available in the nearby San Jacinto Garage.
Street Parking
City of Austin metered parking spaces are located along Dean Keaton St between San Jacinto Blvd and Red River St and are enforced Monday–Saturday, 8am–6pm. Payment can be made via credit card or the Park ATX app.
All street-level parking spaces on campus require a university permit at all times.
Public Transporation
The VAC is accessible via Austin’s public bus system. Use the Trip Planner on the CapMetro website to determine the best route and departure/arrival times.

Accessing the Art Building and VAC
The Visual Arts Center is accessed via the main entrance to the Art Building at the corner of San Jacinto Blvd and DeLoss Dodds Way, where a street-level curb ramp is located. The main entrance doors to the Art Building are at the top of the concrete steps, to the left of which is an ADA-compliant ramp. Once at the entrance, a power-assisted door is available. The VAC is immediately inside this entrance.
Gallery Accessibility
- All VAC galleries are wheelchair accessible.
- Visitors can access our upper-level galleries via an elevator in the northeast corner of the VAC. Please ask our staff if you need assistance locating or using the elevator.
- Service animals are permitted in the galleries.
Restrooms
- Restrooms on the first floor of the Art Building are wheelchair accessible and include power-assisted doors.
- Visitors can access an all-gender restroom on the second floor of the Art Building via an elevator located on the east side of the building, near the Department of Art and Art History administrative suite.
- Please ask our staff if you need assistance locating restrooms.
Gallery Guidelines
Please be aware of these policies during your visit:
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building, including in the courtyard.
- Backpacks, food and drinks are not permitted in the galleries; these items should be left in the compartment shelf by the reception desk during your visit.
- Photography is permitted in the galleries. Visitors may also draw and take notes using pencils.
- Strollers are permitted in the galleries.
- Service animals are permitted in the galleries.
Group Tours
The Visual Arts Center offers on-site guided and self-guided tours for groups interested in learning about our current exhibitions and projects. In-person visits are limited to groups of up to 40 adults or students. Schedule your visit today by filling out the online tour request form for your group.
