Nottingham Trent University is a partner in a new project which aims to address significant health and welfare issues in poultry production, utilising advanced technologies and black soldier fly larvae. The initiative brings together a consortium of industry leaders and academic institutions, including expertise from NTU's School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences.
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our FeedFlow project! 🚀 Funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Farming Innovation Programme, delivered by Innovate UK—this project will explore the transformative benefits of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae for poultry health and welfare. By integrating cutting-edge AI-powered monitoring with the nutritional advantages of BSF larvae, FeedFlow aims to improve poultry diets, streamline feed delivery, and promote sustainability across the industry. "Insects are an essential part of our transition from linear to circular resource use, and projects like this are accelerating insect production to commercial viability by thinking outside the box about how we can harness them to improve poultry production," says Emily Burton, Professor in Sustainable Food Production at Nottingham Trent University.
