A pleasure to share the stage yesterday with Simon Higgins as we discussed what it takes to go from prototypes to powerhouse at the AWS London Executive Summit yesterday near St Pauls Cathedral. Some amazing speakers across the day on a number of really interesting topics, but GenAI was clearly the focus area for most. Some key takeaways from me. Many organisations are attempting proof of concept exercises, very few make it to production. Scaling from a proof of concept to production in Generative AI hinges on a critical flaw: too often, we start with a solution in search of a problem. True innovation means first understanding the unique challenges and opportunities our customers and stakeholders face. As LLMs become ubiqutious, merely adopting this technology won't set you apart. The key is to leverage these tools in ways that highlight what make your business unique -- otherwise you risk losing your competitive edge. Consider the mixed results seen in fields like consultancy, where using LLMs showed that while productivity and quality can soar, so too can the rate of errors. It's a powerful reminder that understanding both the capabilities and the limits of these technologies is crucial. (BCG/Harvard report - Consultants using LLMs completed 12.1% more tasks, 25.1% faster when compared to a control group without LLMs.... however consultants using LLMs were 19% more likely to produce incorrect solutions) Ultimately, a successful data strategy doesn't just revolve around architecture, it's about cultivating a culture, mindset, and processes that use technology to unlock real business value, enhance customer experiences, and open new paths to efficiency and revenue

In more ‘dipping into the past to delight my present’ I connected with Robert Chandler earlier this evening. Ex YRSer and so much more (if that’s possible 🧐) his career has been an absolute delight to watch. Recently upped sticks to Silicon Valley to give his start up https://www.wordware.ai a proper chance - because it is genuinely brilliant. The link gives you enough of a clue if you like sandpits to test stuff, but for those who like a bit of info before they click put very simply what Wordware does is move the interface to AI into that sacred space where subject matter expert and developer meet. No more endless slack messages with suggested prompt edits to try to refine the result. More ‘Google docs for prompts’ where both can collaborate and work with LLMs at the same time. But most importantly it allows you to slide the controls from low/no code to allow you to interrupt with coding options. I love it. So will you… In Causeway we are really embracing the opportunity that AI affords us to carry on in our mission to drive up productivity in the built environment by driving down inefficiencies. AI and motherhood - not two words you might put together. However, when I watched all the amazing new AI announcements from Google this week, it was the new innovations which would help me as a parent that really piqued my interest. Despite working in a really supportive working environment for families, with senior women such as Yonca Dervisoglu sharing their own experiences of parenting, there is still just the weekly, sometimes daily struggle of the juggle. I’m sure many parents on here feel the same pain. The new AI tools can: - Create a healthy meal plan to suit my kids tastes [basically beige] - Build a city break itinerary for the family [even for the child who won't walk] - Summarize communication from the school [the overwhelm]  - Explain school problems to my kids on their terms, so they’re engaged These innovations are every day game-changers, offering helpful ways to lighten the load for parents. I cannot wait to get stuck in and start using them - the school will think my kids have upgraded their mum, I’ll be so organized. "I'm lazy and disorganised." That was my response to an interview question for AWS. Unusual, I'll admit. We were speaking about productivity. I explained that early in my career I had recognised two inescapable facts about myself; I was both lazy and disorganised. After a brief, suitably dramatic pause I continued. Having come to this realisation, I then went on to develop compensatory mechanisms. I honed and polished these mechanisms over decades, until I was considered a thought leader on productivity and time management. This was an example of moving from a skill-less state to skill mastery through a process of self-awareness, conscious choice, and endless practice. I suspect you have your own examples of similar personal transformation. Through a particular lens, our lives can be seen as a series of choices about our traits. Our professional and personal successes depend upon us knowing these traits, knowing our goals and bridging that gap. → Would you agree?
