💶 There are loads of posts around BANT, MEDDICC, methodologies and so on. But in the end, sales always comes down to ‘need’ but I don’t think many really get what that actually means. I’ve seen Enterprise AEs torn apart at QBRs by CROs as they haven’t been able to truly identify ‘need’ and what the compelling event is. My simple advice: The ‘so what?’ method. Kind of like the 5 whys, whenever you get an answer to your sales questions, ask yourself internally, ‘So what?’ ”I need to make sure this is signed before Dec 31st.” So what? “If we don’t we’ll be in trouble with the regulators.” So what? ”Worst case scenario we can be fined 10% of our annual turnover…” Spoiler alert: 95% of the time it comes down to 🤑 💰 💶

BANT might be killing your top of funnel. I've been on the buyer side a lot more lately and the amount of times I've been BANTed in the first call is crazy. Even had an SDR BANT me on email... The thing is, your funnel is a process and you want to be mindful about where you add friction to it. It might make sense for some co's with crazy demand to add friction very early on in the funnel because leads signing up might not be of the best quality. But if you're startup, adding friction too early might not be the best move. Same for recruitment btw, for a big four, a cover letter makes a lot of sense, for a startup... maybe that's too much friction too early. Point is, Look at everything as a system with processes and be mindful of where you add friction. PS. Not just hating on BANT, just shouldn't be used as a checklist in most cases.

We're seeing a key leading indicator in our Sales Cycles at the moment - duration between meetings. At a high level there are two sets of accounts: 1) those that are interested and willing to book meetings quickly in order to meet specific timelines, solve certain pain points, tackle key goals etc 2) those that are interested but aren't willing to book meetings quickly and need a couple of weeks to review things, speak to others, gather feedback Group 2 are evidently the ones that end up time wasting and eventually going Closed Lost. Here's a talk track I'd recommend to sense check this when setting next steps: "Appreciate you being so open about XYZ pain point, sounds like it's a high priority to solve this quickly. We want to match your urgency here, would you be open to meeting tomorrow in order to flesh out the Business Case?" Based off the response, it gives you a solid opportunity to run additional discovery, to challenge their priorities/timelines or to DQ effectively.

Here are 3 ways we’re engaging more contacts in every opportunity: ✅ Incentivising SDRs to bring in extra contacts into the meeting.   Spoken about this one a lot but we pay SDRs for every extra contact they bring into the opportunity. SDRs spend time with their AE mapping out the opportunity post-discovery and aligning on key stakeholders to bring in. ✅ Running weekly call afternoons with our AE team Every Thursday our AEs join our SDRs in their call block to compete for who can bring in the most net new conversations. This has been a fantastic way to get our sellers to pause in their week and focus on driving multithreading activities as well as giving SDRs some healthy competition ✅Utilising new tools such as trumpet 🎺 Recently Cognism has started using trumpet. It has been an absolute game-changer. It allows us to email gate ‘pods’ to collect viewer data helping identify new individuals in the decision process, engage directly with those new stakeholders in live chat, and auto-enrich new pod viewers into our CRM. I helped launch Salesloft , Gong , 6sense and many others in the UK via Sales Confidence I’ll be honest I’ve not been as excited about a new GTM technology as much as I am about Clay (And for once I’m not being paid - yet ;) ) The flexibility, possibilities and opportunity to impact your pipeline is incredible. This has the feel of the Salesforce , HubSpot ecosystem effect. I’m seeing consultants, agencies, experts popping up in my feed particularly in the US rapidly over the last 6 months. I’m not surprised they have just raised $62 M at a $500 M valuation! Varun Anand and Kareem Amin are doing amazing things! I don’t really see it as a SDR or sales person end user tool…tell me if you feel differently? However, it’s application to drive productivity and efficiency accross your sales team is epic!
