💷 On Friday, the UK government announced its support for two major carbon capture and storage (CCUS) projects in Teesside and Merseyside, pledging up to £21.7bn in funding. 🌍 This commitment, made by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is part of a broader CCUS and hydrogen industry package aimed at capturing 20-30 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030. 🏭 The HyNet and East Coast Cluster projects are expected to capture 8.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year once fully operational, driving job creation and attracting private investment. #NetZero #CarbonCapture #CleanEnergy #ESG https://lnkd.in/dVQfZsdM

🌎 Mapping land use support systems to reach net zero LUC is excited to share our latest study for ClimateXChange. We’ve worked with Scotland's #ClimateChange centre of expertise to map land use support systems. The Scottish Government’s ambitions to reach #NetZero by 2045 require transforming land use and reducing #GreenhouseGasEmissions. Our research aims to understand the factors that influence engagement with land use transformation support systems, to guide policy and speed up the pace of change. Through interviews and a literature review, we wanted to understand how stakeholders make decisions and access funding. We established how rural land managers interact with systems and services and the barriers they encounter. Key findings: 📖 The public sector grant system is logical but has a high administrative burden. 🤝 Trust in the source of advice is key for land managers’ decisions. 🙇‍♀️ The breadth of support sources is confusing for some. Click here to see it for yourself 👉https://lnkd.in/e6Q7mpW4 This is the first public report of this calibre that we've released, and it is essentially a report that highlights our measured emissions, water and energy waste from 2022 into 2023. Some of the main highlights of this report are: ⚫We're currently tracking at 42% of our SBTi tracking for a target of 46% by 2030 ⚫20 million litres of water saved through rainwater harvesting in our supply chain ⚫4,157kg of waste diverted from landfill ⚫We've reduced the use of 24 million litres of fossil fuel by using biomass energy instead Going forward, this will be an annual report that we will be producing. Zero Waste Scotland Energy and Circular Economy reports Energy Infrastructure Materials Mapping: Offers valuable insights into the scale and material requirements of specified low carbon energy technologies until 2050, focusing on 12 key materials across multiple technologies. Its findings will enable the development of strategies for resource efficiency, recycling, and the circular use of materials in Scotland’s energy sector. Circular Steel in Scotland: Explores opportunities to increase circularity of steel within Scotland, focusing on the steel scrap market, the potential economic impacts for steel recycling facilities, and the steel requirements for offshore wind projects. The research discusses the case for government intervention to establish a domestic steel value chain in order to capitalise on Scotland’s steel scrap. Scotland Ports: A Future Vision: Examines the potential of Scottish ports as catalysts for circular energy infrastructure, promoting circular businesses, facilitating decommissioning with remanufacturing/rental solutions, and creating sustainable local jobs. The first live trials for the Centre of Excellence for Decarbonising Roads have begun! This UK-wide initiative, part of the ADEPT Live Labs 2 programme, is a major step towards greener, more sustainable local roads. Trials are taking place in North Lanarkshire and the West Midlands, testing innovative low-carbon materials to repair potholes. Today is World Environment Day 🌍 When the UK parliament signed the 2050 net-zero target, it was widely considered to be world-leading. However, there has been slow progress on delivery. There remain significant gaps in the plans to deliver net zero, with the Climate Change Committee (CCC) research indicating that is a lack of urgency in policy delivery to achieve this.
