We are living through a time when our working population is more age-diverse than it has ever been, with more generations working alongside each other than ever before. Managing this can be tricky as there are undoubtedly generational differences both inside and outside of the workplace, but the benefits of all these diverse perspectives are well worth the extra effort. I really don't get what this video is trying to achieve. 1. If aimed at kids like the creators suggested, they've missed that target because kids don't want or appreciate being talked to like this. My kids and others who have I have spoken to about climate change just want facts and for you to answer their questions normally. 2. Most adults watching this are going to cringe and be turned off by the silly innuendos and ridiculous power dynamics lens being applied. Oil isn't being extracted just because some 'man' likes money more than anything else, but because humanity values the benefits that come from the products and services made with that oil. The climate movement needs to move away from this kind of messaging that only speaks to the converted and makes them feel clever or witty. They need to speak directly to ordinary people who just want a high standard of living and solutions which can easily be swapped in to replace current behaviours and lifestyles. Yes, some individual behaviour change is necessary but that's got to be as painless as possible and come from a place of 'want' rather than 'guilt'.

As today is the last day of World Menopause Awareness month, I'm reflecting on a month of more low than high points in my own perimenopausal journey. However, always keen to harness my own experiences for good, I want to share three things I'm grateful for and three things why I believe we need to keep the conversations and proactive support going beyond October. I'm grateful for: 🏡Remote and flexible working 🫂A supportive husband and teenagers who want to learn and understand 💁‍♀️New friendships made from attending my local primary care network's six-week menopause support group (a top recommendation for others). Why we need to keep talking and doing: ➡️ Despite some progress menopause-related employment tribunal cases have significantly increased with latest figures showing an 87% rise between April 2023 and March 2024. https://lnkd.in/enzf3_MM ➡️Nearly 70 per cent of women aged 40-60 in employment experiencing menopausal symptoms report that it has a negative effect on them at work, and more than 50 per cent are unable to go to work at some point due to menopause symptoms. ➡️ It's great that Mariella Frostrup, has been appointed as the UK government’s new menopause employment ambassador but she is just one woman and understandably her focus will be on working directly with government and large employers. https://lnkd.in/e6QZNSr5 (Disappointingly, very few media outlets picked this news item up). All employers, no matter what their size, need to act to stop women leaving their careers and the workplace during what is a perfectly normal life phase. 💡You don't need to be a menopause expert to listen and have a conversation. It's great to see companies are waking up to the need for support systems to help women navigate #Menopause, both to preserve talent and maintain productivity. This is an essential step forward, but we are still only dealing with half the issue. While organisations are rightfully focusing on menopause, what about #andropause? Are we inadvertently ignoring a significant portion of our workforce? I recently applied to speak on a podcast about andropause to highlight how it affects men in the workplace both mentally and physically, and why businesses should be aware of this issue. While the response was polite I was ultimately declined because the podcast only wanted to focus on menopause and its impact on women. I found this decision telling because I felt a man's right to humanity was pushed aside. Focusing solely on menopause risks limiting a company’s efforts to preserve its profitability and credibility. Men also have a 'Pause' journey and experience the same symptoms as women. Ignoring this reality means that companies could be missing half of the problem and, as a result, leaving a significant portion of their workforce unsupported. When companies are unaware of the challenges posed by andropause, they may experience reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and even the loss of valuable talent in the male pool of workers. Addressing this issue isn't just about fairness, it’s about safeguarding the organisation’s bottom line. A company can invest in menopause awareness campaigns, employee wellness programs, and policies that cater to women going through this transition. That’s great, but they’re only mitigating half the risk. If the other half of the workforce, men, are not midlife includive, an organisation remains vulnerable. For every pound saved by supporting women, there could be a comparable loss due to the unaddressed issues of Andropause. A workforce is both pink and blue 💖💙, and the experiences of men and women in midlife should be equally important in the corporate wellness conversation. Ignoring andropause could leave corporates vulnerable and mean facing an unnecessary financial hit on half of their bottom line profits and diminishing the overall credibility of a their wellness efforts. I know from experience how tricky crowdfunding can be. These guys are doing such important work, tackling emissions and environmental sustainability in running and really paving the way for other sporting organisations. Did you know that almost a quarter of working women (23%) have considered quitting their job because of the impact of menopause or menstrual symptoms*? When we consider the continued gender pay gap and low rates of female representation in board rooms and senior positions, this is just one of the reasons why conversations about hormones need to happen across the organisation. Cue our invitation to the amazing @Kate Muir asking her to come back to Transform to talk to our Brilliant Women network about hormones and their affect on our careers throughout our lives - not just at the menopause stage. I love this line from her presentation: "They learned. They looked up. They went in. They asked." Women armed with information and ready to get serious about their health and well being. It's been over a decade since we founded Brilliant Women and while we spend the majority of our time discussing business related leadership issues, health in the workplace is an important part of any organisation. Thank you Kate Muir for speaking so candidly to our audience. It was much appreciated. Thanks to relentless campaigning and advocacy, it finally feels like menopause is getting the attention it deserves. Through thought-provoking documentaries, articles and personal stories, this stage of life is no longer hidden away. But how has this attention affected the next generation? 'How to rewrite the anxious Millennopause' is my report on Millennial attitudes to menopause. My research suggests that 28 to 43 year olds, who have yet to begin the menopause transition, are feeling nervous and unprepared for what's ahead. Rather than focus on all the doom and gloom, my report presents the facts alongside tips and expert perspectives on overcoming these fears. I think we need to start learning early, listen to a range of voices and opinions and plan for the many scenarios that may be ahead. We should all be extremely grateful to recent generations who've worked so hard to bring menopause into the spotlight. They've forced us to hear what it's like when there isn't the right care and what it means when struggles are ignored. Those trailblazers mean we can approach things differently in the years ahead. Thank you to Sarah Graham for partnering on the research and Justyna Green for the report's illustrations. Another big thanks to Andrea Balboni, Dr. Elise Dallas and Dr Jennifer Fildes for their expert opinions in the report. A great listen for fellow comms professionals. I feel lucky to have spent my formative years at Freuds. You certainly got the feeling you were working exactly on the zeitgeist of culture. On reflection one of the things I most respected was the lack of self-promotion around the agency itself. No courting of industry press, no endless entries into pointless awards or drive to be at the top of any league table. We were 100% focused on our clients and the work. And I believe it spoke for itself. But what Matthew refers to in this interview is that this was an important choice. Because you should never go into advising a client with any kind of thought of what might be in it for you. This is the antithesis of how most agencies function now. How many (internal) briefs start with ‘this needs to be a Cannes award winning idea’. The focus has already been pulled from the client and what their needs are. You could argue that with a great idea everyone wins, which is true. But so many ‘award-winning ideas’ often are no more than catchy headline. The really great campaigns are often far more complex. Next year I will have been in the PR game for 30 years and there really is no better PR that I have seen in action than Matthew. I was lucky to experience it.

How might we ground the data in outcomes, informed by the people whose lives are changed? I couldn't be happier today for the #LGBTQ population and Spencer Macnaughton and his team. In a time when corporate media, as well-intentioned as it is, goes out of its way to give voice to falsehoods, slurs and misinformation about the issues facing LGBTQ people, Uncloseted Media launched today, right on schedule. According to founder and award winning journalist Macnaughton, "What can you expect from Uncloseted? Well, every week we will publish rigorous, nonpartisan, objective LGBTQ focused journalism. Our mission is to investigate the people, the money, and the power behind America’s anti-LGBTQ ecosystem, and simultaneously elevate the voices of everyday heroes. Our aim is to be a publication for the LGBTQ community but also to break out of the queer echo chamber so we can bring critically important stories to Americans in every county in all 50 states." We need this in an era where we are called "filth" by "credible" candidates running for important positions like Governor of North Carolina and elected officials use that term in Oklahoma to talk about their goal to rid the state of us. And when major US-based companies we have supported like Lowe's Companies, Inc., Ford Motor Company and John Deere turn their back to us and turn forward to a conservative influencer who they are afraid of. Time to make a difference. Our now is our next. With so many children, and families, waiting too long for mental health support we need to ask ourselves whether traditional services are leaving children behind? If we were to redesign mental health support today for our future generations what would access look like? Digital fluent young people represent a third (33%) of the UK population, yet they are expected to access frontline GP services in the same way as their parents and grandparents.
