This is the most bizarre post from an Energy minister; and one yet to travel to the heart of the energy sector in the U.K. I appreciate he’s going to make the most of his newly elevated post and enjoy the trappings of being a minister - flying to glamorous hotspots… But… in January this year, Petrobras announced record oil production and Brazil as a whole saw oil production up 13% in 2023 and gas up 8%. And they want to keep pumping more. Hypocrisy, much? Back at home, his government’s policies are crushing investment and jobs in the North Sea - squashing future investment in the just transition he so longs for. Maybe he’ll come and meet energy leaders in Aberdeen on his way home from Brazil? #wheresed #oilandgas #energytransition

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) and fuel switching to hydrogen energy sources are key to decarbonising Scotland. Funding from UKRI’s Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge (IDC), delivered by Innovate UK, has allowed partners like the SSE plc and Equinor-backed Peterhead Carbon Capture Power Station, NECCUS and Storegga to collaborate, exchange knowledge and improve their capabilities to support the rapid delivery of industrial decarbonisation. The IDC’s support has enabled: ● Enhanced understanding of available offshore sites for the safe and long-term storage of CO2. ● The design of purpose-built ships for transporting CO2 from remote industrial sites lacking direct access to storage sites. ● Increased knowledge on how to transport CO2 from central Scotland to St Fergus via existing pipeline infrastructure. Timing is everything.... Hugely proud to have worked with Nesta to produce a first-of-its-kind study on the experiences of smart prepayment customers’ with a domestic flexibility service - Utilita Energy's participation in National Grid ESO's Demand Flexibility Service with our #PowerPayback service. ESO's DFS redesign for winter 2024-25 and beyond has just been submitted to Ofgem for review/approval. If I worked at Ofgem I would be challenging how this redesign protects consumers and ensures the low carbon transition is a just one. To say that ESO's redesign will exclude prepayment households this winter is an understatement. In several instances ESO have done the exact opposite of the recommendations in this report which suggests how flexibility can be more inclusive for those that need it the most, lower income households, the vulnerable and the fuel poor. ESO have done this at a time when the price cap has just increased 10%. The latest figures from our 2024 State of the Sector Report, show the marine renewable energy sector supports 429 full-time employees in Wales, across a wide range of different roles 👷🏻‍♀️👷🏽‍♂️ Pembrokeshire tops the chart with 260 people employed within the sector, and both Swansea and Anglesey each boast a significant level of employment too. Our data also shows that on average, companies working within the Welsh marine energy sector employ 70% men and 30% women - a slight change on the 79% male 21% female split recorded last year, but as an industry we clearly have a way to go.
