Here's how you can confidently assert your opinions as a system architect.
In order to show empathy, I find it necessary to build empathy. That usually can only be done through a story, which must have some relevance to the subject. It can be tangentially related to the subject as long as it ties back in. The story itself sets the tone that you want to build that pathos you need for your argument. I usually try to make the story funny in order to open the audience to challenging or difficult subjects, either intellectually or emotionally. On occasion I have used a sad or unhappy story to build empathy toward the urgency a problem that must be addressed. Even discussing something as mundane as architectural choices, the openness and cooperativeness of an audience to a problem being posed is still important.

Here's how you can confidently assert your opinions as a system architect.
Never assume that you know what the other people are thinking or what they know. Make sure you have covered the basics and there is common understanding between you and your audience in terms of what is being discussed, what terminology must be used, and what the most salient facts are relevant to what is being discussed. Ideally any presentation is a conversation rather than a one-way lecture. Even in a large audience, I often ask via a show of hands some indicator of what the audience knows, such as what level of experience do they have or what concepts are they familiar with. This allows you to skip the most basic part or give you a reason to go in more depth in some subject.

Here's how you can confidently assert your opinions as a system architect.
Know your facts. You can only do that by doing the research and listening to alternative opinions. Weigh up these perspectives and come to your own conclusions based upon your own set of principles. If you are confident in your facts and know what the alternatives are, as long as you are confident in your conclusions, it is quite easy to present them assertively.
