Great article highlighting one of the points that has had a major impact on the deployment of networks across the globe - how Governments 'sell' spectrum to MNOs and the impact this can have on rollouts. We have seen auctions in the past that have raised billions for Government coffers, but that leaves MNOs with major headaches in terms of monetisation as they then must upgrade (or build) masts and networks across the entire country, add new active equipment and provision upgraded backhaul, all of which is expensive, especially when they are in price wars with each other for customers. Renewals of these spectrum allocations will become more and more of an issue as the original licence periods expire, interesting to see how the German regulator is approaching the issue – especially considering their decisions creating new challenger companies when other M&A has taken place which potentially creates more headaches later on. RCS definitely has been the buzzword for almost a year now post Apple's announcement. However, for the past few weeks I've been wondering which of these channels will come out as a champion product for the Global brands - Will it be RBM as now it will be compatible with all the mobile phones or will it be WhatsApp which already has massive penetration in some of the key geographies and Meta continues to fund it's growth in other regions? Will the Global brands incentivize and try to influence the consumer behavior in order to move the consumers to a channel which the brand prefers or will the brands integrate both these rich media channels and use them as per the consumer behavior in various geographies ?

Vodafone's expansion of 5G Standalone networks in the UK could inject a whopping £3 billion annually into the economy, thanks to improved connectivity and efficiency across sectors. Imagine better train journeys, enhanced productivity for remote workers, and significant cost savings for businesses in the transportation sector. With 5G, there are potential productivity gains of £1 billion and 26 million hours saved from decreased delays. An estimated £10 million savings in train delay compensations could be reinvested into vital rail infrastructure. The proposed merger between Vodafone UK and Three UK could pave the way for a massive self-funded infrastructure investment, bringing 5G Standalone to 95% of the population by 2030 and 99% by 2034. The Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh recently unveiled Labour’s plans for the UK railway system.     We were pleased to see mobile connectivity, including 5G, recognised as a core way to improve passenger service quality.    The integration of advanced 5G technology can transform travel, offering passengers seamless internet access for work and entertainment and providing railway staff with instant access to crucial operational data.    In addition, implementing 5G-enabled sensors on railway tracks could significantly improve infrastructure. Our research shows that by reducing faults and delays, these upgrades are expected to save over 25 million hours for passengers over the next five years, boosting both productivity and well-being with an estimated value of £326 million.    As a result of our proposed merger with Three UK, we can provide extensive 5G coverage for the majority of the UK’s railway stations and tracks, contributing to a more efficient and connected future for UK rail transport.   #TogetherWeCan #5G

Seeing a lot of talk about the UK’s 5G capabilities recently, but just how true is it? Well, our 5G connection is lagging behind other G7 nations, and the situation isn’t improving. With average speeds falling short, even city dwellers are grappling with unreliable service. A recent report highlighted that British users access 5G only about 10% of the time, a stark contrast to more than 40% in India. The root causes are multifaceted, But a lack of long-term investment and poor planning frameworks have compounded the problem. The £500 million announced in this weeks’ budget doesn’t touch the sides of the estimated £37 billion needed for full 5G rollout by 2030. That’s a wrap! Two great days exhibiting at #ConnectedNorth in Manchester, delighted with the response to our new data visualisations. When you have one million mobile coverage and performance datapoints in an 8 square mile area, as we have in Westminster, it’s important to show that data in a variety of ways that suit different purposes. There were varied views about which visualisation was favourite, as they all served different purposes, but the crowd favourite was probably our new “Which Network?” feature which allows you to search for an address and networUX will show the data transfer speeds, upload and download, within a 100m radius of the address searched. Some people loved the quality of the data, others were impressed with the filtering by 3-hour periods (important for finding capacity problems which only show up during busy periods), but all loved that we could show whether popular streaming and business apps (MS Teams, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime) would perform as intended on each of the networks at a specific location and time period. I’ll post here soon with an overview of the new features and visualisations in networkUX, we think you’ll love them too.

I do believe that in a not so far away past of COVID times the worldwide economy has been able to continue and follow the pace of the market demands, that people have been able to share via Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, and all the way they have used to be connected with their beloved ones, or their business activity. And that recently in strong events like Olynpics the world has been able to feel the sport emotions and the #Paris2024 amazing events also with one Telco managing 100% of the communication on sites and from sites to the world, as all Telcos are doing each time there is such an event. So. Yes we are not perfect but we do our best to improve fast, whilst maintaining security, following the X3 Internet growing usages every 2+years, with huge backbone investments not even always valued at the real costs not to speak about value, we maintain trust of all data following European Regulation, and much more than that. Continuing and accelerating this amazing journey is the industry Telco Commitment on a daily basis for the biggest benefits of our customers, and for the development of the Digital Value Chain thru standardisation, customer use cases on which we agree to then allow a seamless connection from end to end for Digital Actors, with Digital and API development to allow all this. And last but not least in the contrary of some more digital actors, we are doing this with daily competition between us, but also industry spirit to ease the interconnection between us, and between us and Cloud Service Providers to ensure this seamless customer journey.
