And deeptech requires a few additional considerations. Watch the video to see what I thought at least. But what went wrong is pretty simple. Despite two super reputable and ultra-impressive-sounding founders, I couldn't work out if I could get a return on my investment. Not because my computer/calculator decided to take early retirement—no, no, but because the founders were not transparent with the terms. Yet again - and I urge Crowdcube to advise all projects to consider this - always put the terms of the investment front and center! Be proud of them. Investors should feel it is a privilege to invest in a hot #startup. Sure - in the 'cooling-off' period that happens at the end of each #crowdfund, you get to see the official documents, which will likely detail the terms. But that's only helpful if you already knew you were going to #invest. When you're 'browsing' a #crowdfunding site, the terms should be up front and centre otherwise, like I have just done, the #investor will move on. If I missed it, which I checked again afterwards, then I'm an idiot! But in general, I hope this video helps #founders and investors alike create and review crowdfunding projects. Big love,

Interesting that two of the largest fund raises over the past few weeks are for layer-1 blockchain builders. Berachain announced on Friday that it closed a $100m round led by Framework Ventures and the Abu Dhabi branch of Brevan Howard Digital. Just a few days earlier, Monad Labs announced that it had finalized a $225 million round led by Paradigm. These are big rounds, and the timing and size suggests that venture investors are still betting on engine builders. While I’m sure public-facing applications are also getting some funding, I haven’t seen them get this size of allocation. Founders/Investors raising or investing...READ THIS We have raised £400k under the UK Government's SEIS/EIS Scheme, through SeedLegals Of that £400k, £250k was under SEIS and £150k was under EIS. So what does this mean? Well, the £250k we raised under SEIS, qualifies for Tax Relief/Rebate to the individual investor of 50% and 0% Capital Gains Tax. So, that means that £125k will be either offset or claimed back, courtesy of the government. A typical ticket of £25k, suddenly turns into £12,500 of actual investment, but still £25k in terms of your equity/shareholding....BLOODY GOOD RIGHT! Then we have the £150k under EIS. Same as the SEIS, you get 0% Capital Gains Tax and 30% Tax Relief/Rebate. So from the £150k under EIS, £45k is Offset or claimed back courtesy of the government. So of the £400k we raised, £170k will be claimed back, into the investors pockets! Now as we move into our Seed Raise, of £2million, we are still raising under the EIS Scheme, which means £600k will be rebated back by the government. So if someone put the full £2million in, they could claim back £600k, meaning their cash outlay is £1.4million, but they actual shareholding and equaity is at £2million. This Scheme is an incredible incentive for investors and a great way for founders to raise investment and fund their businesses. Just finished reading the latest Fintech+ newsletter from Il Sole 24 Ore on fintech scenarios, authored by the brilliant Pierangelo Soldavini, and it’s packed with valuable insights! The analysis on sustainable growth, driven by generative AI and embedded finance, truly stands out. Sweden is leading the charge in Europe, with Italy gearing up for a new phase of market integration and innovation. The global fintech market is proving to be a cradle of innovation and growth, despite a slowdown in funding and valuations. As the report from Boston Consulting Group highlights, "With game-changing technologies like generative AI and billions of unbanked or underbanked people worldwide, fintech has enormous development potential." BCG projects that the fintech industry could reach $1.5 trillion in business volume by 2030, growing fivefold from current levels. However, it's essential to *balance optimism with prudence*. The new report, "Global Fintech 2024: Prudence, Profits, and Growth," emphasizes the need for sustainable and profitable growth. McKinsey's report from last autumn also underscores a paradigm shift towards more sustainable growth, focusing on profit and technological revolution as key value drivers. Despite reduced funds and valuations, fintech revenue has grown by 14% over the past two years, rising to 21% when excluding crypto and China-exposed fintechs. McKinsey estimates that fintech revenue growth could outpace traditional banking by nearly three times in the coming years, with a projected 15% growth between 2022 and 2028 compared to banking's 6%.
