“I had the pleasure of working with Arthur on Karen Millen’s entry for the RIBA Regent Street Windows Project 2013 and on the installations for the Karen Millen AW13 Press Show. Highly creative and a true innovator right at the forefront of his field, Arthur had no problem crossing over temporarily into the world of retail visual merchandising. His window installation in our Regent St store received global praise in both the retail and design press and placed Karen Millen firmly on the world stage as a leader in the field of experimental window design. Highly recommended, he is an architect to watch. Work with him now whist you still can!”

Lava flow hazard at Nyiragongo Volcano, DRC
Bulletin of Volcanology Volume 71, Issue 4 , pp 375-387
Mt. Nyiragongo is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world for the risk associated with the propagation of lava flows. In 2002 several vents opened along a huge system of fractures, pouring out lava which reached and destroyed a considerable part of Goma, a town of about 500,000 inhabitants on the shore of Lake Kivu. In a companion paper (Favalli et al. in Bull Volcanol, this issue, 2008) we employed numerical simulations of probable lava flow paths to evaluate the lava flow hazard on…

In a companion paper (Favalli et al. in Bull Volcanol, this issue, 2008) we employed numerical simulations of probable lava flow paths to evaluate the lava flow hazard on the flanks of the volcano, including the neighbouring towns of Goma (DRC) and Gisenyi (Rwanda).
I collaborated on this paper as part of my fourth year of studies at the Architectural Association (more info: http://mamou-mani.com/lava-flow-barrier-in-goma-d-r-congo/).Other authorsSee publication

More info: https://www.ribaj.com/intelligence/rising-stars-cohort-of-2017 - RIBA Journal has announced its shortlist of 16 practitioners, all within 10 years of qualifying at part 2, in the first round for its Rising Star award in association with Origin Doors and Windows. After much debate, the judges picked the group from a strong field that represented practices old and new from across the country, and from clients, landscape architects and engineers. The judges – Mary Duggan of Mary Duggan Architects, John Nordon of forward-looking client Pegasus Life, David Miller of David Miller Architects, environmental engineer Mark Skelly of Skelly and Couch and Eleanor Young of the RIBA Journal – soon found strong themes emerging. The complexities of setting up your own practice were matched by those of co-ordinating huge multi-million pound jobs. These designers have all achieved beyond their own projects to bring value in many other ways to their practices, their clients and the wider communities they work with. Here we summarise what impressed the judges about each entrant, while they give a flavour of what challenges they think the industry faces – and what could be done about them.
