  • Redevelopment of the HRP website

Building on from the successful replatforming project, my team was asked with completely redeveloping the website using the new infrastructure put in place, based on the user needs gathering exercise that we carried out.

In simple terms, we built a backlog, developed personas, created a bespoke weighting system for attributing value to each need, and prioritised them into a discrete sequential list. This then became the bible for our Agile working over the following 9 months.

Working with a third party supplier, who we meshed into our Agile working, at both a contractual and day-to-day level, we rebuilt the website (Umbraco), and re-imagined the front end user interface completely. Addressing the priority work in sequence, and creating a stage environment where internal content editors and external users could interact with the emerging site ahead of a complete switchover.

Used load-balancing and software to gradually switch the percentage of users over from the old to the new site, as it became increasingly 'complete'.

The site today is essentially the same site as we 'completed' in June 2017, with minor modifications, predominantly to content rather than code.

  • Replatforming the HRP website

    -

Led the replatforming of the HRP website from an outdated and expensive and inefficient outsourced support contract to a modern opensource CMS where maintenance could be carried out in-house.

This initial project was classed as a lift and shift, but was a lot more than that. We carried out a needs gathering exercise for the full redevelopment project (that came next), and incorporated any high priority operational needs from that into the replatforming project.

This initial project was classed as a lift and shift, but was a lot more than that. We carried out a needs gathering exercise for the full redevelopment project (that came next), and incorporated any high priority operational needs from that into the replatforming project.

This was also the first project where Agile | Scrum was being used within HRP, so there was quite a spotlight on it.

    Result was successfully:
    - extricating the organisation from a legacy contract with an external supplier that could no longer provide the efficient and effective service the organisation demanded;
    - building in-house capability to both maintain and develop the underlying infrastructure, and maintain and develop the content of the site.

  • Macmillan Website Redesign

    -

The aim of the project was to develop a new sector-leading website for Macmillan, the largest cancer care charity in the UK.

This involved a new, restructured cancer information and support section covering hundreds of types of cancer, a new homepage and a local dashboard helping people to find local services, volunteering opportunities and fundraising events.

It was designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of people affected by cancer and to work well across all screen sizes…

This involved a new, restructured cancer information and support section covering hundreds of types of cancer, a new homepage and a local dashboard helping people to find local services, volunteering opportunities and fundraising events.

It was designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of people affected by cancer and to work well across all screen sizes including mobile and tablet.

I was the mobile lead on the project, the mobile SME at stakeholder workshops, inputting mobile needs into developing rapid prototypes, assisting with conducting user testing and providing mobile direction to development team (internal Agile team and external back-end development agency).

Assessed a usability need for mobile users accessing our desktop Online Community (http://community.macmillan.org.uk). Proposed the extension of our mobile site to accommodate the Community. Managed the cradle-to-grave scoping and development project.

  • Building the Macmillan mobile website

    -

After developing a mobile strategy for the organisation and achieving cross-organisational buy-in to it, I then managed the cradle-to-grave development of the site. Briefing the work, procuring suppliers, negotiating specifications of work, managing the prototyping, internal and external showcasing, further development, coordinating the training of in-house development team and product marketing and launch.
