Kicking of the final day of London International Disputes Week (LIDW) ‘International law: what commercial practitioners need to know’ co-hosted with RPC- law firm. SQE2 Assessments - Legal Research - Part 2 Here's a cheeky guide to tackling your legal research like a pro: 1. First, grab those questions from the instructions and slap them into your template as subheadings. It's like breadcrumb trails; they'll keep you from wandering off into the research wilderness. 2. Next, put on your detective hat and skim through those sources. Some might be as irrelevant as a chocolate teapot, but chances are they're all going to be useful. No sweat if they all seem important. 3. Found some juicy info? Great! Copy and paste that gold right next to the question it answers in your template. It's like matching socks; do it as you go, and you won't end up with a pile of unmatched research at the end. 4. Get down to the nitty-gritty and cross-reference like you're creating a treasure map for your supervisor. They'll want to see you've dug deep enough to strike research gold. 5. Treat this task as if you're crafting a legal love letter (essay, actually). Woo your client with solid advice backed up by the romance of reliable sources. Every claim you make should be as supported as a well-argued courtship. Please note that you can only copy by using control and C and past using control V. Assessment criteria Your evaluation will hinge on your prowess in three key domains: ·       Ensuring your advice centers around the client's needs ·       Harnessing pertinent sources and authorities effectively ·       Employing language that is both clear and concise, and deemed acceptable. Your grade will reflect the legal robustness of your research; it's imperative that your findings are legally sound and sufficiently thorough to counsel your client.

UK law firms show a significant rise in the junior lawyer pay to compete with US law firms only to have it criticized as "insane." UK “magic circle” firms have all this month increased salaries by 20% for newly qualified lawyers. Elite US firms are competing with magic circle for UK M&A transactions where it reached the highest level by deal value since 2018 according to Dealogic. It is necessary to increase the pay as US firms are taking advantage of a favorable dollar-sterling exchange rate. If you are specialised in a narrow area of law, adjusting to a more generalist role in-house can be challenging. 🔶 Increased autonomy can either be perceived as a benefit or a challenge. Adaptability is key. 🔶 In-house lawyers often work closely with non-legal departments such as the commercial and finance teams. Understanding and aligning with the company culture is crucial. 🔶 Career progression will vary depending on the organisation and will likely not be as linear as in Private Practice.
