I recently wrote a piece on Senegal’s Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s government and promised education reforms that has been published with The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)'s Africa@LSE blog. I discussed the appointment of Moustapha Guirassy as Senegal's Ministre de l’Education nationale and the government’s promise of a “systematic change” in the education system, particularly the integration of local languages into the formal education system. Given past governments' lack of change regarding language policy, I argue that Faye’s promise to integrate local languages--as well as engage more with local communities and refocus on vocational and adult education--represents a shift in Senegalese education policy. However, as others (particularly Marame Gueye and Rama Salla Dieng, PhD) have pointed out, Faye’s government has sidelined women in decision-making positions and eliminated the Ministry of Women. In order for Faye's government to truly create "systematic change" and reform the education sector, the government must create policies that address inequalities (especially gender inequalities) in the current system. #Senegal #Education #Educationpolicy #History https://lnkd.in/ev6CEemh

🌍 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 In the fight against #climate #change, #Africa often feels the greatest impact, yet access to funding remains inconsistent. During PACKS Africa's recent workshop in partnership with CIRU of the University of Southampton and Ghana's Environmental Protection Agency, key insights were shared on tackling this challenge using #local #evidence and resources. Speaking on the theme "Advancing Climate Change and Health Issues in Ghana: Co-Creating Research and Policy Pathways for Sustainable Interventions," experts highlighted the critical need to move beyond relying solely on large-scale international #funding and focus on small-scale, community-driven interventions to address immediate #climate challenges effectively. A call was made for building local capacities, strengthening partnerships, and integrating environmental education into primary schools’ curricula to foster long-term #sustainability. Why does the cultural sector need collaborative research partnerships now more than ever? Over the last two years, we’ve run Collaborate: an exploratory programme pairing cultural practitioners with academics to investigate questions of cultural value.  But, as the programme draws to a close, what can we learn about the value and challenges of such research collaborations? In this piece, Centre Manager Liz Harrop, FRSA reflects on how bringing practitioners and academics together has helped to bridge the gap between theory and practice while also rethinking traditional research models. Although - spoiler alert - it wasn’t always easy.  “Collaborations are inherently messy and challenging. After two years of running the programme, we have learned much about supporting partners to navigate competing interests and find common ground, and the care needed to develop these spaces ethically and effectively”.
