What's the biggest threat to your agency as you scale past £1 million? If you're thinking cash flow, market competition, or even a recession... You're dead wrong. The real killer? Death by managers and "professionals". I've seen it happen time and time again... An agency hits that magical 7-figure mark, and suddenly they think it's time to "grow up". They start hiring fancy executives with impressive resumes from big corporations. And before you know it... Everything. Slows. Down. The scrappy, nimble agency that used to move at lightning speed? Gone. Replaced by endless meetings, bureaucracy, and "strategic planning sessions" that go nowhere. It's like watching a cheetah transform into a sloth. But here's the thing... Cost per hire isn't tracked by 89% of care companies in the UK. That frightens me. Not tracking your cost per hire leads me to asking the following questions: 1. How do you know what budget to set for your advertising spend (Indeed etc). 2. Where is money being lost? 3. How can we reduce the cost per hire going forward? Most agency owners aren’t making £10k a month. They’d be better off in a job. That’s the sad reality of running a business without understanding your numbers. I’ve seen agencies doing seven figures in revenue, but the founder still struggles to pay themselves and their team. And I’ve seen agencies doing £250k in revenue where the founder lives their dream life. What’s the difference? One understands their numbers. The other doesn’t. If you don’t know your financials, you're likely paying yourself money you can afford. Dipping into cash that's claimed by outgoings like corporation tax and VAT without even knowing it. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Get a good accountant. Understand your cash flow. Pay yourself what you can afford. The agencies thriving today make their money work for them, not the other way around. Don’t let ignorance be the reason your business doesn't last.

Do you need to have SDR experience to be a successful SDR? In my opinion, no. If hiring managers are just looking for existing SDR’s then a lot of talent is being missed. Call centre jobs, door-to-door sales…recruitment 😅 There are many roles out there that build resilience, grit and get people used to being told no… or worse, which is vital. Don’t get me wrong, hiring someone with SDR experience would be ideal and make them very likely to succeed. But, you might be hiring someone who wants to progress quicker than you like. If they’ve been an SDR for a year already, will they want to start from scratch and do another 12 months? They may be a bit more expensive and might even need as much training as someone with no SDR experience if they’re used to doing things a different way! There’s a lot of talent out there, don’t fish from a small pool 🎣 #recruitment #sdr #creativenatives

45% of daily emails end up in spam 🫠 This morning, I decided to check how bad my primary email deliverability really is (you know, the one connected to your website domain like [email protected]). As the report loads? SURPRISE SURPRISE! I get hit with a POOR score 👀, and 52.5% of my emails are marked as SPAM. The thing is, I’m not sending spam or cold emails. This is the email I use to talk to clients and candidates, but still, I’m flagged as SPAM. For day-to-day communication, it’s not a huge deal.
