About us

We work at all scales and in all sectors. We create transformative cultural, corporate, residential and other spaces that work in synchronicity with their surroundings. Zaha Hadid, founding partner of Zaha Hadid Architects, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004 and is internationally known for her built, theoretical and academic work. Each of her dynamic and innovative projects builds on over thirty years of revolutionary experimentation and research in the interrelated fields of urbanism, architecture and design. Working with senior office partner Patrik Schumacher, Hadid’s interest is in the rigorous interface between architecture, landscape, and geology as the practice integrates natural topography and human-made systems that lead to experimentation with cutting-edge technologies. Such a process often results in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms.

The distinctive undulating forms of the Ripple outdoor sofa and side table by Zaha Hadid Architects for Serralunga are inspired by fluidity. Flowing curves and lines define a sense of movement, highlighting the sculptural quality of the ensemble.   The sofa encapsulates the dynamism of a wave arriving at the shore, gradually reducing to the smaller scale of the side table to create versatile lounging configurations. Integrated lighting within the base of the sofa illuminates the pairing in the evening.   Crafted in weather-resistant recyclable polyethylene, this bespoke outdoor arrangement is both durable and comfortable.   The Ripple outdoor sofa and table continue Zaha Hadid Architects' assimilation of seamless formal geometries with functional considerations. https://lnkd.in/eDr3UTnF

The Masaryčka building in #Prague has been inaugurated in an opening ceremony officiated by Bohuslav Svoboda, mayor of Prague; Marek Dospiva, founder & partner of @Penta_Real_Estate; and Jim Heverin, director of #ZahaHadidArchitects. Masaryčka’s design integrates with Czech Railways’ ongoing modernisation of the historic Masaryk Railway Station that is creating a new public square partially over its railway tracks, enhancing access to the platforms below and providing new pedestrian routes between Florenc and Hybernská on either side of the station. Bordered by the railway platforms to the south, Na Florenci street to the north, and the Wilsonova elevated freeway to the east, Masaryčka has been constructed on a derelict site that has stood abandoned for several decades. To the west, Masaryčka replaces the existing car park on Havlíčkova Boulevard with a new public square with interchanges between city’s rail, tram and bus networks; defining a welcoming gateway to the city for suburban rail passengers as well as those using the express rail link that is currently under-construction to Prague’s international airport. Located 1km east of the city centre’s Staroměstské Square, the design establishes a dialogue with the embellished historical architecture of Prague’s Old Town – known as ‘the golden city of 100 spires’. External fins within Masaryčka’s façade contribute to solar shading and transform the project’s horizontal composition to the verticality of its western façade that faces the spires of the Old Town. A cascade of terraces divides the two buildings with similar terracing on the eastern façade giving every office floor direct access to generous outdoor spaces. Communal roof gardens offer views across the city while Na Florenci street is transformed into a tree-lined avenue. Targeting LEED Platinum certification, Masaryčka’s design, procurement and construction and has prioritised local suppliers and materials with a high recycled content to meet 2025 targets for embodied & operational carbon established by the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. https://lnkd.in/eHZsT4gC

Marking the start of construction works, the cornerstone has been laid at the site of the new Ülemiste Passenger Terminal in #Tallinn.

A multi-modal transport hub for the city’s commuters as well as international rail passengers and air travellers using the adjacent Tallinn Airport, the Ülemiste Passenger Terminal is designed as a connecting bridge linking together districts of Tallinn currently separated by the railway tracks that disect the city. Opening in 2028, Tallinn’s Ülemiste terminal will be the northern terminus of the new 870-kilometre Rail Baltica electrified railway now under-construction. Providing passenger services at speeds up to 249km/h, Rail Baltica will connect Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with the European high-speed rail network in Poland.

#ZahaHadidArchitects developed the design with leading Estonian architecture & engineering firm Esplan. Circulation routes through the terminal have determined the station’s spatial geometry to aid navigation and the seamless integration of the city’s bus, tram, rail and cycle networks that intersect at the terminus.

Incorporating a modular structural system built in phases to enable ongoing operations on the rail lines throughout construction, the terminal has been designed and planned to BREEAM benchmarks and guidelines.
#Estonia’s Climate Minister, Kristen Michal, said: “We have been dreaming of a fast connection to Europe. This is a landmark year in the construction of Rail Baltica – in addition to laying the cornerstone of the Ülemiste terminal, the construction of the main line has also begun. Building a high-quality connection will provide a much-needed new opportunity for the Estonia’s people and its economy.” https://lnkd.in/eHZsT4gC

Construction reaches roof-level at #ZahaHadidArchitects’ new 3.2 million sq. ft. development located above #HongKong’s High Speed Rail West Kowloon Terminus which has remained in operation throughout all building works. Also adjacent to the Kowloon and Austin stations of Hong Kong’s MTR metro network, this new business district integrates with a key section of the 1.5 km landscaped pedestrian West Kowloon Parkway, giving established and emerging neighbourhoods within Kowloon direct access to the harbourside and parks of the West Kowloon Cultural District. Providing almost 100,000 sq. ft. of garden terraces, plazas and atriums with shopping and dining on its lower five levels, the development incorporates two pairs of interconnected office towers located at both the northern and southern ends of the site. The towers frame a large central plaza with a sculptural pavilion housing panoramic lifts that connect to the levels below. Complementing the unique geometry of West Kowloon Terminus, the development’s composition maximizes outdoor public space and enhances natural ventilation throughout the district, in addition to respecting the ridgeline of Kowloon’s mountains to the north, maintaining the mountain views from across the harbour on Hong Kong Island. Divided into a series of interconnected ‘petals’ each with a different orientation and height, each tower tapers inward at its summit to reduce their perceived volume while the façade’s vertical shading pleats extend over each rooftop, creating ‘halos’ that shelter roof terraces and sky gardens. The towers also taper inward at lower levels, reducing their footprint to increase outdoor space and air flow. Achieving an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating as well as the highest rating of LEED, WELL and HK BEAM Plus pre-certification, the development incorporates high-performance façades with low thermal transfer values and solar shading fins. Photovoltaic panels integrated at roof level and within the façade will reduce energy demand from the city’s electricity grid. Upon completion, global wealth manager UBS will be consolidating their various Hong Kong operations into a tower within the development. https://lnkd.in/eHZsT4gC

Sotheby’s auction of “The Dalmore 49 Year Old Luminary No.2, The Rare” Transforming Zaha Hadid Architects' signature architectural language into high art, ZHA’s director Melodie Leung and the 185-year-old distiller the Dalmore collaborated on “The Rare”: a 49-year-old Single Malt housed in a bespoke glass sculpture crafted by master glass blower Fiaz Elson. “The Rare” evokes the image of a full-bodied dram of whisky being decadently swirled in a rocks glass made of fine crystal, and took Elson and her team more than 2,000 hours to create. Together, Leung says, they “[brought] the material to the limit of what is possible.” The piece cured for 12 weeks at Elson’s workshop The Glass Foundry, where it then took more than 500 hours to polish, and weighs in at 176 pounds. The finished piece debuted at V&A Dundee museum and will be auctioned at Sotheby's with all proceeds from the sale to benefit the museum. https://lnkd.in/eKu8g-7q

Construction works at Navi Mumbai International Airport 60% completed Easing congestion at Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport which operates at capacity, construction of the new Navi Mumbai International Airport is more than 60% complete with passenger operations scheduled to begin in 2025. Developed in phases with three interconnected passenger terminals (in addition to general aviation and cargo terminals), Navi Mumbai International airport will initially serve 20 million passengers a year, rising to 90 million when all phases are complete. The organic forms and curvature of the terminals’ columns and roofs are informed by Lotus blossom, the national flower of India prominent throughout the country’s ancient art, architecture and literature. Designed as a multi-modal transport hub and interchange with local, regional and national rail networks, the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be served by the Navi Mubai Metro Line 1, as well as the Mumbai Metro Line 8 and Mumbai-Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Line that are currently in development and planning. #ZahaHadidArchitects (ZHA) has won the #Riga Ropax Terminal architectural competition for a new passenger and ro-ro cargo terminal. Repurposing an existing shipping warehouse built in 1960 into a new 20,000 sq. m ferry and cruise ship terminal, ZHA’s design adds a fourth level to the structure to incorporate public terraces with panoramic views of the Daugava River and the skyline of Riga’s city centre, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Defined by the orthogonal geometries of the existing building, the new terminal marries the 64-year-old reinforced concrete structure with timber from certified sustainable local forests. Engineered to optimize passenger circulation with separate arrival and departure routes, the passenger terminal doubles the capacity and operational efficiency of the current port. Featuring a triple-height grand hall for arriving and departing passengers, vertical external fins created from locally recycled bricks are positioned as solar shading and angled to address the varying sunlight conditions of each façade. Anchoring Riga’s planned expansion along its waterfront and serving as a multi-modal transport hub for the city, the new terminal connects facilities for ferry and cruise ship passengers with Riga’s tram and bus networks. The wide roof canopy extends beyond the building envelope to shelter visitors using the terminal’s terrace cafes and restaurants, as well as passengers using the public transport concourses. Currently used as a storage yard for shipping containers, the terminal’s masterplan creates a welcoming civic plaza facing the city and a new landscaped riverside walkway that provides Riga’s residents and visitors with a variety of waterfront gardens and plazas for recreation and relaxation. Collaborating with leading Latvian practices Sarma Norde Architects and Alps Landscape Architects, as well as Sweco Finland, #ZHA’s experience delivering key transport infrastructure around the world has been complemented by the team’s extensive local understanding of the site’s social, economic and cultural importance.

Launched this week at Salone del Mobile, TOPOS is a collection of outdoor furniture that celebrates Mediterranean living and unites #ZahaHadidArchitects’ design expertise with iSiMAR’s experienced understanding of materials. Named after the Greek word for place, the TOPOS collection encapsulates time with family and friends lounging by the sea, beside a swimming pool, or under a canopy of pine trees. The essence of these precious memories living outdoors are captured in a unique furniture design. Informed by the geographical concept of topography, the TOPOS collection translates contour lines from maps into industrial design, depicting not only the Mediterranean landscapes but also the rich quality of life they offer. As contour lines on maps depict valleys and hills, the collection’s design maps changes in gradient through its efficient use of materials. Ensuring longevity in corrosive outdoor environments, TOPOS is crafted in galvanised steel chosen for its durability. The steel is 100% recycled and the components of each piece can be recovered and repurposed or recycled after reaching the end of its service life. Supporting their community and reducing the carbon emissions of transportation, iSiMAR source only from local suppliers of recycled steel. With its contours adapting to each unique user, the TOPOS collection is defined by ergonomics, materiality, and structure in the finest balance between personal comfort, material resilience and geometric expression. TOPOS is therefore the place where the industrial expertise of iSiMAR meets ZHA’s unwavering commitment to contemporary living and our everyday need to remind ourselves to enjoy the moment. The TOPOS collection by #ZahaHadidArchitects for iSiMAR is showcased at @isaloniofficial 2024, Stand E01, Hall 18, RHO Fiera Milan until 21st April. The collection is also presented within the ‘Apartamento Spagnolo’ exhibition within #FuoriSalone2024 at #Milan’s Palazzo Castiglioni, Corso Venezia 51 until 21st April. https://lnkd.in/e8WWhHQk

Launched in Milan this week, the new Erosion Collection by #ZahaHadidArchitects for NEUTRA srl explores a dynamic interplay between materiality, time and form. The collection’s Minera Table and Branch Console celebrate the beauty of natural stone transformed over time. Carved from the finest Carrara marble, the fluid forms and sinuous lines of the collection blur the boundary between furniture and sculpture, suggesting an alternative concept of space. The Minera Table emerges as a singular composition defined by its materiality and precision craftsmanship. Expressing the erosion evident in the natural world, the table’s fluid forms have been expertly carved by Neutra from a single block of marble. Accommodating up to eight people, the Minera Table measures 320 x 160 x 72 cm and is an exclusive limited edition of eight pieces. Finely balanced between lightness and solidity, the Branch Console appears simultaneously suspended in space yet firmly grounded by the natural forces acting upon it. Crafted from one piece of #marble, two symmetrical branches rise seamlessly from the base to support the 290 x 68 cm surface of the console, defining a central void which enhances the ethereal qualities of the design. The Erosion Collection by Zaha Hadid Architects for Neutra is showcased within the “To the edge of matter” exhibition at the @MEET.DigitalCultureCenter, V.le Vittorio Veneto 2 in #Milan from Tuesday 16th to Sunday 21st April 2024 (10am–8pm). #milandesignweek2024 Photography by Leo Torri
