Think Beyond is proud to have partnered with the Greater London Authority to conduct an impact assessment and develop the "Major Sports Events: Impact for London 2023" report, released last week. This first-of-its-kind report assesses how a sample of major sports events in 2023 brought benefits to Londoners, aligning with the Mayor of London’s strategic priorities across economic impact, global reach, environmental sustainability, and social integration. This marks the first step in a three-year plan to work with event partners, share the inspiring stories of these benefits and demonstrate London’s world-leading position in hosting impact-led major sports events. Highlights from the report include: 💷 £160 million of total direct economic impact was generated across six events. 📺 72 million global viewers from 170 territories tuned in to watch the featured events. 🌱 100% renewable electricity powered the Formula E and Major League Baseball (MLB) events, zero waste was sent to landfill at the MLB London Series and the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars game, and 3,000 bus tickets were sold as part of a sustainable transport initiative between the Jacksonville Jaguars and National Express. 🤝 84% of 352 Formula E volunteers agreed that volunteering gave them a sense of pride in contributing to their community. Additionally, 8,641 Londoners participated in RideLondon Freecycle, and 3,732 young Londoners across 50 schools took part in Major League Baseball 'First Pitch' sessions. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: "Visitors to our city for major sports events significantly boost local hospitality, retail, and tourism businesses and create opportunities for Londoners. These competitions and contests inspire not only the next generation of sporting stars but countless people to live happier, healthier lives by staying active. The global attention these events attract also reinforces London’s reputation as a vibrant, inclusive, and outward-looking city." Hear about the new season of The Hundred and the tournament's impact on cricket and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)'s goal of diversifying audiences for the sport. From Team USA co-hosting (and upsetting Pakistan in) the T20 World Cup, to building a wider and more diverse fan base, cricket is blazing a new path of growth and North America is taking notice. On Wednesday, Audible UK, supported by Think Beyond, hosted the grantees of the Future Stories Fund North West at their Manchester office for a funder meet and greet reception. 🗣 Audible, a leading creator and provider of premium audio storytelling, decided to build on the strong relationships it has with its social impact partners by dedicating time to discuss the best ways to empower young voices in the North West through storytelling. 🙌 The day was truly inspiring for all parties and forms the start of a unique group of individuals being given the space to share ideas and solve challenges. 🔓 The Future Stories Fund specifically targets 16–25-year-olds from historically marginalised communities, aiming to assist young adults in unlocking their full potential, with a focus on those whose exclusion has negatively impacted their literacy levels and aspirations. 📧 Interested in learning more or following this project? It’s been a week since the 2024 ESPYS, in my opinion the best yet. A brilliant combination of jaw-hurting-laughter and being moved to tears. While each year includes both awards and messages on the impact sports can have on the world, this year felt different. More overt. More necessary. More urgent. None more so than the clear and impassioned plea from Maui Surf Community representative, Archie Kalepa. Looking right down the lens into millions of homes worldwide, he reinforced the devastating effects of climate change and the very real, immediate, need for us all to take action. The Maui Surf Community received the prestigious Muhammed Ali Sports Humanitarian for its swift response to the wildfires that destroyed much of Lahaina nearly a year ago. These big wave surfers banded together to transport badly needed supplies to the still-smoldering town via the ocean in the days following Aug. 8, and continue to support the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Using their big wave experience, credos, and equipment, the Maui Surf Community provided another example of how, when used with intention, sports can have an impact. Using the exposure of the ESPYS, the Maui Surf Community showed us the power of leveraging powerful platforms for change. I hope Mr Kalepa's courage and integrity raises awareness of the Maui Surf Community's culture of sports with purpose, and continues to show the world that where there's a will there's a way. This is personal for me and the team at Think Beyond, where we help amazing individuals and organizations use their powerful platforms as a catalyst for good in the world and for their business. As the Maui Surf Community showed us, we can do great things together. To hear Mr Kalepa's comments, scroll to 5m15secs in this VT from ESPN https://lnkd.in/e8r52KNn To find out how to leverage your platform for positive change, drop me a line: [email protected]

🏆 Congratulations to SailGP Season 4 Impact League champions - Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team 🌍 Launched in 2021 with Think Beyond's support, the Impact League is sport's first podium for the planet. Running alongside the SailGP Season Championship on the water, the Impact League tracks the positive actions teams take to reduce their overall footprint and accelerate inclusivity in sailing. This season, teams were evaluated on four new focus areas aligned to SailGP’s overall purpose ambitions: climate action, accelerating inclusion, the race to zero waste, and breaking boundaries. SailGP Chief Purpose Officer Fiona Morgan said: "I am incredibly proud to have delivered another year of the Impact League and it is great to see a new team winning - three different Champions in as many seasons - and such fierce competition with all teams upping their game across the season calendar. "The global impact the Podium for the Planet delivers is unrivaled; working with world-class partners we’re creating a ripple effect in sailing and inspiring other sports. I am really thrilled for the Great Britain team and their Impact League title - they came into the season wanting to win and have delivered a super impactful season, with great initiatives across both social and environmental sustainability."
