UK Power Networks

⚡ UK Power Networks is investing more than £7 million in replacing 4.5 kilometres of underground cables between Sydenham Park and Churchfields Road in south London. 🔌 The new 33,000-volt cables will be the latest design to maintain safe and reliable power supplies to customers in the local area, as more people use low carbon technologies such as heat pumps and electric vehicle (EV) chargers in future. 🚧 The project began in March this year and is expected to take 22 months to complete.

🆕 #opendata set alert from UK Power Networks. 🔔   ⚡ We’ve made planning your electricity usage simple! 🔌 From installing EV charge points to heat pumps, stakeholders can now see which secondary substation is feeding their area with our new secondary substation feeding map. This is now published for the 71,000+ unredacted sites across our entire network.    🤝 Special credit to Geoff Crollie for network tracing to even make this possible. 💥 New Dataset Alert 💥 Over the past year, we've been dedicated to enhancing data transparency across our network assets. Building on this, our new dataset for 33kV circuits is now available on our Open Data Portal. Currently, this dataset is for SPN, with EPN expected to be available by the end of August. ⚡ Aaron Waters shares how his experience in the Armed Forces has shaped his management style at UK Power Networks. 🚣 Ahead of Armed Forces Day, Aaron and our ‘oarsome’ armed forces veterans are preparing to ‘row’ 77km from Dover to Dunkirk as a rowing machine relay team at the Imperial War Museum in London. They'll be raising money for Scotty's Little Soldiers charity which supports bereaved military children. #ArmedForcesDay

International Women in Engineering Day has seen a few events taking place across UK Power Networks.   🦺 Last week, 18 female engineers and our female led procurement team toured our Canada Water site and watched the progress of the major substation being built to support a significant development in the area.   ⚡ On Monday, in partnership with Essex County Council some of our staff volunteered their time to spend a day with 50 aspiring women engineers talking through their future pathways and how electricity travels to your home.   #INWED2024
