Powerful insights from Laura Aguirre of SembraMedia and Alharaca at this year's Trust Conference: A looming foreign agent law in El Salvador has forced many journalists to consider exile. Across Latin America, threats and harassment are driving journalists to seek refuge in countries like Costa Rica, Mexico, and the U.S. In response, we've teamed up with SembraMedia to create essential guides for newsrooms starting anew in exile. These resources cover everything from setting up a sustainable media outlet to choosing the right legal status. 🗂 Download the guides now to learn more: https://lnkd.in/e99JeKUF #TC2024

Thomson Reuters Foundation reposted this
Some days ago I attended Thomson Reuters Foundation Trust Conference to explore the intersections of democracy, #digital human interaction, and tech policy. It was exhilarating to hear Nobel laureate Maria Ressa and tech journalist Kara Swisher. What a pair of sharp minds and purposeful women! 💪🏽 Later, I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Wendy Chen, Andrew Pakes , Irakli Khodeli and Andrew Strait. Together, we dove into #AI governance and how the private sector can operationalize ethical and responsible AI. I shared some learnings from our Mastercard journey - how placing people at the center of our tech and data governance isn't just good ethics, it's good business. One key governance feature looking ahead, is🌍 "regulatory interoperability" 🌎- think of it as creating #bridges between different countries' AI rules, making it easier to build and deploy solutions that work across borders, while adapting to local contexts. Looking forward to keeping the conversation going! These spaces are essential to foster honest and action-driven dialogue among civil society, government and businesses on AI and it’s effects on our society.

As corporate adoption of AI continues at break-neck speed, we need to support companies in harnessing the benefits of this technology, while mitigating the risks to people and operations. I was excited to announce at Trust Conference today that we are partnering with UNESCO on the AI Governance Disclosure Initiative. Together, we have built a voluntary survey to support companies in mapping their AI adoption across their workflows, operations and services. The survey launches in summer 2025. In the meantime, find out more about how you can join the Initiative and position your business at the forefront of change: www.trust.org/ai-adoption #TC2024
