World leaders have been too slow in making the systemic changes needed for sustainable development, to protect children and the planet. But it must not be this way. ✅ Children must continue learning when schools are damaged and destroyed by floods. ✅Children must be protected from diseases and have access to resilient healthcare systems that can withstand shocks and adapt to our changing climate. ✅Families need to be equipped to cope when climate change disrupts their incomes and livelihoods. Despite being the most affected, children’s needs and rights are often absent from climate policies and financing. Governments must respect children’s rights by including them in key decisions that affect their lives. World leaders have an opportunity to put children first at #COP29 this year. Here are 5 ways governments can act on the #ClimateCrisis and put children at the centre of climate action. Share to help demand action for leaders today! Together we can #SaveTomorrow 🌎

Change is possible. Share this post to fight for change ❤️ About 1 in 8 children have been significantly impacted by the 10 biggest extreme weather events this year 🌊 🔥 With climate change, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, with children often bearing the brunt of these disasters. The World Meteorological Organization has estimated the number of global extreme weather events has increased five-fold in the past 50 years ⚠ The extent to which children are impacted highlights the urgency to put children at the heart of climate discussions at the COP29 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. With the majority of the children affected living in low- and middle-income countries, world leaders need more than ever to prioritise the voices and experiences of children living in poverty, and facing inequality and discrimination. Floods in northeast Nigeria uprooted Kyariyam*, 12, and her family from their home in September: "Half our school was completely destroyed. I feel really bad that I’m no longer able to go to school. I constantly worry about how I will catch up.” Kyariyam*, like millions of children around the world, wants world leaders to step up at #COP29 and put the rights, voices and vulnerabilities of children at the top of their agenda. This is not just a climate crisis, it's a child's rights crisis and it demands ACTION NOW! World leaders: act today, to #SaveTomorrow 🌎

You have probably seen the airstrikes, and violence in Lebanon on TV, the news and across social media. And must be wondering... what is life really like for children in Lebanon right now? 💔 Children always bear the greatest brunt in any conflict, and in Lebanon it is no different. Mohammed, 15, said: "This war is affecting my education as well as my physical and mental health. I constantly fear displacement. The loud sounds and nightly bombings in Beirut traumatise me" No child deserves to live in fear. We must all do everything in our power to demand an immediate ceasefire. This is the only way to protect children and families and safely get them the support they need. In the meantime, until peace comes, we are working hard to ease children's and families' lives. We've set up safe spaces for children to play and recover. We're helping to reunite unaccompanied children with their families. By donating to our Children’s Emergency Fund, you can help us continue to protect children living through conflict ➡ https://lnkd.in/en9dr2up

Each year, over 1 billion children experience violence, with an economic impact estimated at $7 trillion⚠️ The urgency to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against children has never been greater. The first Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children taking place right now in Colombia, offers a pivotal moment to drive transformative change in child protection. Strong, inclusive child protection systems are among the most cost-effective and sustainable strategies to prevent violence against children while ensuring that those impacted receive the support needed to thrive. Protecting ALL children from ALL forms of violence across ALL contexts requires that child protection systems strengthening become a central strategy in our global approach. That’s why, together with our partners such as UNICEF and World Vision, we are launching the Framework for Action on Child Protection Systems Strengthening. This framework provides a common understanding and clear direction for key stakeholders, helping to identify the most critical actions needed for resilient and inclusive child protection systems. Join us in advancing these actions and ensuring that #EveryChildProtected becomes a reality. 🔗 Learn more and access the Framework for Action here👉 https://lnkd.in/kkfju #ChildProtection #EndViolence #VAC #EVAC2024

Each year, one billion children experience physical, emotional, and sexual abuse ⚠ The climate crisis, intensifying conflicts and the rapidly expanding digital environment are exposing children to even more risk of violence, especially the most vulnerable children❌ Children who experience violence not only experience immediate suffering and harm, they can also feel the effects for the rest of their lives. It affects their ability to develop, learn, grow and thrive as adults. Violence against children is intolerable. Every child should feel safe at home, at school and in their communities ❤️ But thankfully, violence against children is preventable, and we have solutions that work. Building robust child protection systems are one of the best ways to protect children. They connect children to vital social services – starting when they're born and throughout their childhood. That's why at the first-ever Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children taking place today and tomorrow in Colombia, we're calling on governments to strengthen comprehensive, sustainable and inclusive national child protection systems that prevent and respond to ALL forms of violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect. Meet the people keeping children safe ➡ https://lnkd.in/efFWZQAa #EVAC #InOurHands #EveryChildProtected #ChildProtection

Urban growth is increasingly affecting our children and youth, with 1 in 4 urban children growing up in slums. To ensure children thrive, cities must be designed with their wellbeing in mind. The World Urban Forum happening this week in Egypt is a monumental step towards this goal. Our delegation consisting of young representatives and Save the Children colleagues are eager to participate and discuss children's issues, which are at the forefront of many panels at this year's event. More than 5.8 million children have been forced to flee their homes in Sudan⚠ ❌ Out of these, more than 2.8 million are babies, toddlers and preschoolers. These small children are uniquely vulnerable, and while displaced many will miss out on early childhood essentials – including vaccinations, clean water, healthcare, nutritious food, and shelter from extreme heat and cold. ❌ Girls are also particularly at risk, with over 3.2 million of the displaced children being girls below 18, who face particular threats of sexual violence, rape, or early or forced marriage. This clearly shows that the world's largest displacement crisis is a children's crisis. “When people are forced to flee their homes due to violence, it’s usually the women and. children who go first – and we often see displacement camps filled with children. But the number of children displaced in Sudan – and in particular, their young age and vulnerability – is staggering" - Mohamed Abdiladif, Interim Country Director for Save the Children in Sudan. We are urgently calling on the international community to take meaningful and urgent political action to address this crisis, for an immediate ceasefire and progress towards a lasting peace agreement.
