Reacting to the Government’s Make Work Pay plan announcement, Richard James Smith, RHA Managing Director said: "It is vital that this Bill does not discourage businesses from starting up, growing and investing. Businesses must be meaningfully consulted to avoid changes that disincentivise hiring. "We await further detail on the regulations and look forward to engaging in consultations so we can represent the views of our industry. Firms must be given the right support with any changes they need to make to their processes and practices ahead of legislation being implemented. We note that elements of the Bill won’t be implemented until late 2026 and we will be studying the proposals in detail to understand what they mean for employers and employees."

We continue to campaign for improved facilities. As a result, we're pleased to see today’s announcement from the UK Government on further grants awarded to truck stops to improve toilets, showers, security, rest areas and more. The funding is from the third year of the HGV parking and driver welfare grant scheme, which will come in addition to £8 million from industry, for a total funding boost of £12.5 million to improve truckstops. RHA Director of Public Affairs & Policy for England, Declan Pang has welcomed the move. He said: “We are delighted to see funding allocated to drive improvements to standards and capacity at lorry parks and truck stops across England. “The grant scheme continues to be a very welcome commitment from government and the industry to bring about much-needed improvements for lorry drivers who are a vital workforce in keeping the country’s supply chains moving.
