Photographer Hannah McKay captures a rare moment of calm in the Paris Olympics Gymnastic finals, and shares how she got it: “When Simone walks out into the arena, everything becomes about Simone, so when I saw her touching up her makeup it was this beautifully quiet moment amongst the chaos of a gymnastics final. Moments later she won another gold medal with Team USA.”

The #ParisOlympics may be over, but Reuters team has collected some great stories on how they captured such memorable shots, like this one from photographer Phil Noble. In his words: “I had noticed the tattoo of the rings on the leg of USA captain Steve Tomasin but they had never been clear enough to see. At the end of their final game I followed him for a bit when all of a sudden they became crystal clear as he had unexpectedly removed his shorts to swap with an opposition player.” #PhotographyStories

Head of Reuters AI Strategy | journalism and innovation | people-centred leadership and growth

It's September and we're back! There is a LOT of exciting work to be done in the last four months of the year. First up, our Reuters News Agency and Imagen from Reuters teams will be at the IBC - International Broadcasting Convention in mid-September, showing the latest innovations in our news and content distribution platforms. Ahead of the event, I had the pleasure of talking to Omar Mehtab about what we are doing with #AI and #GenAI in the newsroom at Reuters. My three pieces of advice to people still wondering how to start on AI: 1) Get going with whatever team you can muster - those with formal roles and early adopters. Work on small but useful projects. You will learn so much together both in terms of what works and the pitfalls might be. 2) Gather lots of use cases and then prioritise projects that fit your overall strategy and your "why". That will help you see where AI will make difference and how much, and accelerate eventual adoption. 3) Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. Gen AI rarely does a task completely and perfectly so work out how you can integrate what they do well with your trusted people who do their thing well. Integrate as things develop. It's a much safer and more responsible way to go. Many thanks to Sarah Burbedge and the team at Chalk+Chilli for the production.
