Each month during this financial year, four lucky people from across the Reed Group win the chance to pick a charity to receive a £10,000 donation from the Reed Foundation in honour of the Reed Group’s 65th anniversary. One of the latest winners from Reed in Partnership - Jenny McConnell, Associate Director of Business Development - told us about her donation: “I was absolutely thrilled and very grateful to have the opportunity to nominate a charity for a £10,000 Reed Foundation donation. I chose Pancreatic Cancer UK, a charity with personal significance as my own family has been affected by this illness. “The charity’s key activities include funding research to drive forward breakthroughs in early detection and more effective treatments for those experiencing pancreatic cancer. I truly believe that this critical work will ultimately lead to lives being saved, and what a day it will be when Pancreatic Cancer UK’s vision of everyone with pancreatic cancer surviving to live long and well becomes a reality. It has been an honour to be able to contribute to this goal through the Reed Foundation.” #improvinglivesthroughwork #lifeatreed

Our fringe event at the recent Labour Party Conference with our friends at IPPR discussed some of the key issues that will determine how the UK builds the workforce needed to realise net zero. There was strong recognition in the room of the need for collaboration across sectors to achieve shared objectives. We launched Reed Environment last year as part of the business response to the net zero challenge. The UK needs thousands of newly trained or upskilled workers to deploy heat pumps and solar solutions across the country, install electric vehicle chargers and retrofit homes to ensure they are energy efficient. To achieve this, we are developing services to deliver training to thousands of workers across the UK through our partnership with OEA - Oxford Energy Academies. Our ambition is to expand our reach by opening new Energy Academies across the country in areas that are most in need of net zero skills training to ensure access is spread equally. Alongside this work we have also been delivering green skills contracts on behalf of different government commissioners. We have recently completed a Retrofit Assessor skills programme for Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and are about to undertake Reed Environment’s first contract with Department for Education, delivering heat pump training to learners across Oxfordshire with Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP). You can learn more about the work of Reed Environment in our new Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/e6MYwxci

Young drivers are more likely to be killed or injured on the road than older drivers, but assisting them to improve their ability to spot and predict hazards can help them to better avoid danger. That is why Reed in Partnership is supporting an innovative project that harnesses technology to support young learner drivers, in partnership with leading road safety experts, local councils and emergency services. Developed by Esitu Solutions, a spinout from Nottingham Trent University, this new virtual reality (VR) course is the first of its kind to have been developed for young drivers. Delivered via VR headsets, the course safely places users in immersive virtual reality experiences that provide lifelike driving simulations to test, analyse and ultimately increase hazard perception. The course is based on academic research conducted at Nottingham Trent University and sponsored by The Road Safety Trust. Reed in Partnership was really pleased to sponsor its rollout this summer as an additional module to the Bedfordshire Road Safety Partnership’s road safety course for young people. Professor David Crundall from Nottingham Trent University, said: “We found from our research that it’s much more realistic if we place people in a full 360˚ simulation of the world and get you to spot hazards in that way.” Mia, one of the young drivers who took part in the VR pilot, said: “I’ve never done anything like that before, and I thought it was just so realistic. I actually felt like I was in my own car.” Simon Mitchell, Divisional Director for our Reed Assessment division, said: “We think it’s important to work in partnership with local authorities, the emergency services, and young people themselves in order to increase road safety for young people. “It is vital that we play our part in helping to reduce road deaths by making our roads safer. Digital tech can play a huge role in this – it presents an innovative opportunity for young drivers to test and increase their hazard perception without compromising their safety.” Please watch our video below to find out more about the pilot. From October, the VR-based package will also be rolled out to some school sixth forms in Bedfordshire. Esitu will continue to refine and evaluate the training and will share their findings at the end of the year. Since 2021, Reed in Partnership has delivered almost seven million driving theory tests on behalf of the DVSA: helping to keep our roads safe via rigorous and secure testing is at the top of our agenda.

Service personnel may have sacrificed civilian freedoms and faced danger in ways many of us cannot imagine during their Armed Forces career. They and their families deserve our respect and support, particularly when their Service ends and they make their transition back to civilian life.” Reed in Partnership has begun delivery of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Career Transition Partnership, a critical support service for those transitioning out of the Armed Forces and into civilian work, education or retirement. Nii Thompson, Divisional Director of Reed Citizen Services, explores the three key elements we believe are critical to successful resettlement: 🎯 Clear aims 💬 Expert advice 🔓 Access to the right resources and opportunities You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/eyyPuiGW

We are excited to have been selected as a finalist at this year’s Appreciation Awards, hosted by Reward Gateway, for the category: Most impactful social community programme. This category recognises organisations that have a positive impact on their local communities and whose activities contribute the most social value. Reed in Partnership were recognised for our participant voucher scheme, which issues those using our employability services with vouchers to help them address financial barriers to work, including buying interview and work clothing as well as equipment or tools needed for work. In the last two years, we have supported 30,000 people through our voucher scheme to purchase what they need to get them off to the best possible start in work. We look forward to celebrating with the other finalists at an event in November. #Appies2024 #PowerofAppreciation #AppreciationAwards

At this year’s Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, the official opposition has been taking time to review and rebuild following the general election. A new Conservative leader will be elected in the coming weeks. Many of the conversations at the conference and on the fringe centred on the importance of jobs, skills and public services reform. There was also a strong recognition of the crucial net zero transition and the way that can support economic growth. We look forward to working with government, opposition parties and our partners to realise this shared agenda that can deliver positive change for people and their communities. #CPC24 #Jobs #Skills #NetZero

We've had the pleasure of meeting several Labour politicians this week in Liverpool for the party's annual conference. Today we continued that theme, but in Harlow, with the town's new Member of Parliament, Chris Vince! Chris called into our office to meet the team, our participants and find out about the life-changing work we are delivering on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Restart Scheme. We are a proud and vital part of the economy in Harlow. #Jobs #Skills #Growth
