Discover the unmatched safety and resilience of NuScale’s small modular reactor technology, setting a new standard in commercial nuclear with ENTRA1 Energy Plants™. #SMRadvantage
About us
NuScale has designed a new kind of nuclear power plant that is smarter, safer, cleaner, and more cost competitive than the large gigawatt nuclear power plants of the past. At the heart of the NuScale power plant is the NuScale Power Module™ (NPM), a small modular reactor (SMR) that brings together traditional components—the reactor vessel, steam generator, pressurizer, and containment—into a single, simplified, and fully factory-fabricated unit. Each NPM can produce 77 megawatts of electricity (MWe), and one NuScale plant can house up to 12 NPMs for a total of 924 MWe (gross). This scalability feature is unique to NuScale and allows for customization of facility output to match demand and project economics. NuScale has achieved a paradigm shift in the level of safety of a nuclear power plant facility—safety comes first, second to none. NuScale’s Triple Crown for Nuclear Plant Safety™ design ensures that on loss of all electricity to the power station, an undesirable situation for other nuclear plant designs, each NPM will safely shut down and self-cool, indefinitely, with no need for operator or computer action, AC or DC power, or additional water. This capability is a first for commercial nuclear power. NuScale CEO John Hopkins spoke at Gastech 2024 this week about the crucial role small modular reactors will play in delivering a sustainable energy transition with the rapidly growing demand from AI and data centers. NuScale is the leader in #SMR technology, with the only SMR on the market that is: - Approved by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Part of a completed standard plant design - Currently being produced at a world-class manufacturing facility NuScale SMRs provide all the benefits of traditional nuclear energy at a lower cost and with a smaller geographic footprint, helping to meet the world’s growing need for always-on, clean energy.

“The concern over climate change is now causing many to rethink the role of fossil fuels as the energy source that should drive our future. However, if properly planned and funded, today’s transition to clean energy can be a win for society, the petrochemical industry, and energy producers. Enter the Hydrogen Rush.” Read Dr. Reyes’s latest blog post: https://hubs.li/Q02PnBq30

NuScale Power reposted this
Over the past year or so there has been a rapidly increasing awareness about the energy demands for AI and the difficulty it creates for any tech company whose business model depends on AI and that has net-zero goals. The major players here are Alphabet Inc., (Google), Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and NVIDIA. Key to accomplishing both goals are small modular reactors (SMRs). Much less attention has been paid to them but this is beginning to change. SMR companies include ENTRA1, NuScale Power, TerraPower, Kairos Power, Westinghouse Electric Company, BWXT Canada, Oklo Inc, and X-energy. I became interested in SMRs when attending a private conference this spring hosted by a major bank. Since then I have been spending a bit of time learning about them. I have also learned that Microsoft has expressed great enthusiasm for SMRs, such as through public comments by Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and Chief Sustainability Officer Melanie Nakagawa. Demonstrating their commitment they have hired two former Tennessee Valley Authority executives; Director, Nuclear Development Acceleration Erin Henderson, PhD, MBA, PMP and Director, Nuclear Energy & Innovations P. Todd Noe. In this piece I argue that Microsoft has a great opportunity to take the lead in developing the market for SMRs, just as it is doing for the carbon removal market. I have written about their great work in carbon removal markets in two interviews (https://lnkd.in/ejAVkNwQ and https://lnkd.in/eNfcnidX) I did with Senior Director, Energy Markets Brian Marrs. https://lnkd.in/eqeZPDGq

“There are many opportunities across the U.S. to replace coal plants with small modular reactors (SMRs) to provide clean energy to meet America’s increasing energy demands, while preserving the jobs, the tax base, and the economic vibrancy that these plants currently provide.” Read Dr. Reyes’s blog post on replacing coal plants with SMRs: https://hubs.li/Q02MzjZz0

NuScale SMRs have the lowest lifecycle carbon emissions, land use, and mineral and metal requirements of any electricity source, including renewables, making them the most sustainable option for new generation. #SMRadvantage
