The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Particle Characterisation Interest Group (PCIG) is once again holding ‘The Forge’ conference this year, a two-day event dedicated to knowledge sharing and network building within the particle characterisation sphere. This year's event will be held at Leeds University’s Cloth Hall. As the event enters its third iteration, its reputation is growing as a brilliant opportunity to stay up to speed with the latest technological developments and analytical kit, and is of particular value to organisations such as Lucideon who thrive on anticipating and supporting client needs. Lucideon’s Phil Jackson, who sits on the PCIG, described the value of the event: “Forge has proved popular as a great event for learning about existing and cutting edge particle characterisation. It's a brilliant opportunity for students and early career workers to highlight their studies in short (15 minute) presentations. For the 2024 event, the aim is to have a more practical based conference covering the importance of particle characterisation in making a product work and understanding manufacturing processes and their development.” If you’re interested in attending, standard registration is open until the 1st of November, and can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/dCxUwDbv #ParticleCharacterisation #MaterialsScience #WeAreLucideon

Lucideon’s Thermodynamic Kiln, when combined with advanced process modelling, offers a comprehensive solution for optimising sintering processes. The kiln is dual fuelled, utilising both gas and electric power, with the flexibility to use either fuel independently or both in tandem. This hybrid approach ensures optimal conditions throughout the firing cycle, tailored to the specific needs of each product. Before any firing, we can perform comprehensive thermodynamic modelling to simulate and predict how thermal energy would be distributed on products and allow a better estimation on product behaviour. This allows us to optimise critical input parameters such as heating rate, fuel type or sample stackings for each unique product and firing schedule. The kiln provides a complete view of the product during firing, equipped with 12 thermocouples, 4 viewing ports with infrared and ultraviolet cameras, and an emissions monitoring system, allowing for real-time adjustments and precise control. The Thermodynamic Kiln is a cutting-edge tool that allows us to delve deeper into the sintering processes, providing unparalleled insights when paired with thermodynamic modelling. Lucideon has recently become a member of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), the trade association for the UK’s civil nuclear industry. As a leading materials development and validation organisation, working across multiple industries to develop materials and manufacturing processes, we aim to support fellow NIA members in their work delivering nuclear opportunities. The NIA is an excellent platform for collaboration, ultimately accelerating the development of novel material and process technologies in the fields of decommissioning and waste management, fusion, and new build and existing generation. Lucideon’s experience in the nuclear sector includes work on novel sintering processes for nuclear fuel and disposition development, development work for encapsulation material for Low to Intermediate level waste, and complex mechanical testing for safety and regulatory compliance. This broad range of work in the industry demonstrates our deep understanding of the nuclear context, augmented by our access to the equipment capabilities of The AMRICC Centre. We will be attending Nuclear 2024, the NIA’s premier annual nuclear conference.
