In the context of Saudi Arabia's recent statements about collaborating with #Italy, green hydrogen is seen as a promising low-carbon energy solution for the future. It is produced through electrolysis, an energy-intensive process that separates water into hydrogen and oxygen molecules. #Gulf states, in particular, are key players in green hydrogen production and export due to their strong potential for generating low-cost solar energy. Nonetheless, transportation infrastructure and high-levels on investment represent challenges, and an abundance of non-renewables does not incentivize green hydrogen in the short term. Emre Kanber of the MENA Watch Desk analyses the recent moves made by Gulf states towards diversifying their economies and entering the #GreenHydrogen market. The sudden assassination of #Hezbollah leader Hassan #Nasrallah is likely one of the most significant geopolitical events to hit #Lebanon and the wider #MiddleEast. It is now clear that Nasrallah's assassination was the culmination of the latest round of escalation ahead of #Israel's ground operations. Although Hezbollah likely retains a significant capacity for inflicting harm on Israel, the many security and communications failures that led to this outcome will nevertheless tarnish the group's image of invulnerability. Our Head of the Middle East Watch Desk, Ahmet Altindal, analyses the implications of Nasrallah's death as the region moves ever-closer to an uncharted territory. #LondonPolitica #PoliticalRisk #Geopolitics #Iran

The ongoing #Israel-#Hezbollah conflict, triggered by the October 2023 attacks, poses a significant threat to Eastern #Mediterranean #energy security. The conflict has also implications for neighbouring countries like #Cyprus, #Egypt, and #Türkiye, which rely on stable energy corridors in the region. Any conflict escalation risks destabilizing the broader energy landscape, with significant economic repercussions for the region and beyond. Additionally, the involvement of peripheral actors and militant groups, such as the #Houthis and the Iraqi Islamic Resistance, exacerbates the threat to energy infrastructures. #Gaza #Iraq #Jordan #Lebanon #Gas #Oil #LondonPolitica Our analysts Ellen Marie C. Léopold Maisonny Sarah Ghotme and Emre Kanber analyse the state of energy security in Eastern Mediterranean as regional tensions continue to escalate.
