Leadership 2025
Business Consulting and Services
Our vision is to dismantle structural inequality within the housing sector.
About us
Leadership 2025 is a charity and a movement working across the sector, together with our key stakeholders, to make the housing sector leadership more ethnically diverse. Leadership 2025 began as a leadership programme for senior leaders from ethnic minority backgrounds and supporting talent in this way is a key part of our work and how we achieve our aims. However, there was more work to be done across the sector to drive the cultural change that was needed for true and lasting ethnic diversity of leadership. As well as research reports, recruitment pledges and collaboration with allies, we obtained charitable status so we could really drive forward our vision and mission. Mission To dismantle structural inequality in the housing sector by ensuring equity of opportunity for leaders from ethnic minority backgrounds. Vision For Leadership 2025 to no longer exist because housing’s leadership teams have achieved true and lasting ethnic diversity and representation. We have recently updated our three-year business plan and will be sharing it soon.

In light of the recent racist violence in the UK, we have 14 essential short- and medium or long-term advice points that offer help to housing organisations in developing their response to the riots. Our work in this area is not new – we published a report in 2014 highlighting the role of housing providers in promoting cohesion and resilience in communities. At the heart of our thinking is the importance of promoting community cohesion. This does not necessarily mean that there is an absence of conflict but that the community has ‘a collective ability to manage the shifting array of tensions and disagreements.’ This means that for a community to be cohesive and resilient there must be positive social relationships across different social groups so that there are opportunities for conflict or animosity to be openly addressed. Click on the link below to read our 14 essential pieces of suggested support that housing organisations could offer their tenants and communities. https://lnkd.in/dTR9-ArA The discussion continues on our HDN Community Hub for people who want to share what’s happening, and what they’re doing in their neighbourhoods https://lnkd.in/daAyrPYC (Please note, to access the community hub, you have to be part of an organisation who is a member of HDN)

We're hosting a virtual roundtable on the response of the housing sector to riots in their communities. This will build upon our paper issued this week to inform landlords' activity in this area. We want members to discuss actionable strategies and share insights on strengthening community cohesion and resilience. We're also keen to share best practice in community engagement and workforce issues. Amanda Garrard, Chief Executive of Berneslai Homes will be joining us. Amanda will share her experiences from recent weeks, particularly how their staff and communities have been impacted by the violent rioting and arson attack on the hotel housing asylum seekers on the border of Rotherham and Barnsley. Anthony Duerden, Chief Executive of The Calico Group will also talk through his organisation's response to the riots. Baljit Basra from Devonshires will be outlining legal remedies available to landlords who may wish to take action against tenants involved in the disturbances. This conversation is crucial as we strive to provide relevant and up-to-date support to the housing sector that reflect current challenges. Join us on 15th August for a space dedicated to sharing ideas and discussion. Last week, Leadership 2025 thoroughly enjoyed attending Housing 2024 as a charity partner! Many of our alumni, trustees and allies presented and won awards, networked, gave talks on issues key for the sector and facilitated or engaged in important conversations about progress. It is clear that there is a real appetite for a more ethnically diverse and representative housing leadership and a sector which is more equitable for all. Please get in touch to join the Leadership 2025 movement and make this a reality! #leadership2025 #housing2024 #diverseleadership #ukhousing
