KMC Transport Planning is delighted that Cambridge Investment Partnership has successfully secured planning permission to redevelop the Murketts site on Histon Road, Cambridge! This sustainable development will transform the former car dealership and workshop area into 70 new homes, including 28 council homes and 42 market-sale properties. 🌱🏠 Throughout the planning process, CIP and the project team has engaged extensively with residents and stakeholders, making significant design changes to address public concerns. The revised plans enhance community connectivity while ensuring safety and accessibility, particularly with improved pedestrian routes to Histon Road Recreation Ground. 🌳🚶♀️ The development will feature a mix of terraced homes, semi-detached homes, and apartments, all designed with sustainability in mind—focusing on reducing carbon emissions, lowering energy bills, and promoting sustainable travel. 🌍🚴♂️ We are proud to be part of the great team behind this project. Delighted for our clients and everyone involved! 🎉 Hill Group UK | Cambridge Investment Partnership | Carter Jonas | GUARDA Landscape Architects | Concilio | TSA Riley #development #planning #sustainablehomes #communityengagement #Cambridge

At KMC Transport Planning, we believe transport should do more than just fix problems - it should actively enhance the social, economic, and environmental well-being of our communities. Jack Gray's latest article, "The Right Kind of Connectivity: How Transport Solutions Can Unlock Agglomeration Economies in Campus Settings," explores how tailored transport schemes can support industries that rely on connectivity, using insights from Greater Cambridge and further afield. If you're interested in #transportplanning, #urbanplanning, and #transporteconomics, this is a must-read!
The Right Kind of Connectivity: How Transport Solutions Can Unlock Agglomeration Economies in Campus Settings. At its best, transport planning is about creating solutions that enhance communities' social, economic, and environmental well-being. However, too often, the focus shifts to damage control—mitigating the negative impacts of existing systems (‘predict and provide’) rather than actively working to improve the quality of life and economic opportunities for those communities. This approach is, in part, a symptom of our current transport appraisal methodology, which may unintentionally hinder innovation by favouring urban congestion schemes, over those designed to support broader economic growth. In this article, I draw from my experience in developing transport schemes aimed at fostering economic growth in Greater Cambridge. I explore how transport schemes can benefit industries that rely on physical connectivity through the agglomeration effect, whilst highlighting how transport needs differ between densely populated urban networks and more dispersed, specialised campus clusters. #transportplanning #urbanplanning #transporteconomics #agglomerationeconomies

Yesterday, at the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service JDCC, Trinity College Cambridge secured a unanimous resolution to grant planning permission for a new R&D building at 440 Cambridge Science Park. 🔬 We were proud to be part of the team that contributed to this success. Through an extensive pre-application process, we helped refine the design, paving the way for a positive outcome. Our involvement also included developing a forward-thinking transport strategy, featuring an innovative approach to car parking and measures to promote active travel - all aligned with the Trip Budget approach for this area of Cambridge. We are delighted for our clients and everyone involved! Setting appropriate speed limits is key to improving road safety and street health. Research shows that reducing the average speed on urban roads can decrease collision frequency. Lower speed limits also help regulate traffic flow and may reduce noise and air pollution from brake and tyre wear. Cambridgeshire County Council is exploring expanding 20mph zones in Cambridge. They are seeking input from residents and stakeholders on this proposal. The consultation is open until 25th September 2024.
