Some of the InterGen team had the pleasure of attending the second annual Women's Energy Network Alliance conference in Edinburgh yesterday. We were privileged to hear motivating career journeys from leading female trailblazers in the UK energy industry. We gained valuable insights from the fantastic panelists on the importance of improving diversity and good practice tips we could take away from the afternoon roundtable discussions. The event was not only inspiring but also provided a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow professionals in the energy sector. Did you know that InterGen have made a promise to donate blood three times in 2024! 🩸 At least one million new blood donors are needed in Scotland over the next 5 years to make sure patients can continue to receive the type of blood transfusions that they need. To ensure they can help patients at any time, Scotblood aim to stock six days’ worth of each blood type at all times and within 24 hours of donating, your blood can be on it’s way to saving a life. During #BloodDonorWeek, our employees contributed to our second blood drive and managed to donate an impressive 10 pints of blood - this takes us to a total of 24 pints donated already - stay tuned for our final total before the end of the year... Staff at our Edinburgh office recently volunteered their time at ASDA to support the Edinburgh Street Food by encouraging shoppers to donate items to the food drive as they shopped. We managed to collect an amazing 408.8g of food on the day which will go a long way in helping to support the EFP and the services they provide. This experience not only strengthened our community ties but also reinforced the sense of fulfilment and pride of knowing that we are helping contribute to such a meaningful cause. Some of the InterGen Coryton team recently volunteered their time and efforts at Thameside Nature Discovery Park as part of our continued partnership with Essex Wildlife Trust since 2001 and our pledge to donating each year. If you fancy taking a trip back to your childhood to roll down some hills, then you should take a look at the parks “Rolling Hills” feature which we helped to transform by weeding the area and transporting soil to create a seating bund at the bottom of the hill. 🌄 We also volunteered our time to the “Labyrinth” area that was completed last year, another addition to the outdoor play/sensory area. Volunteering to support in these projects showcases our dedication to improving our environmental impact and social responsibility and Coryton’s continued participation is an amazing reflection of our commitment to staying connected to our communities. Well done everyone who got involved! 👏 Interested in joining a team that cares? The Edinburgh Food Project (EFP), an essential lifeline for many in our community, has seen an increase in demand for its services and so we decided to use this years Easter fun as an opportunity to collect some of EFP’s most essential items to be donated. Instead of the traditional chocolate egg hunting, our Edinburgh employees set out to find items such as tinned fruit, long life milk and tins of spaghetti that had been hidden around the office and brought back to our food collection point in exchange for an Easter treat. 🐰 Coming together as a team to hunt for hidden items was great fun, and knowing that our efforts contribute to a positive impact on the community adds an extra layer of sweetness to that chocolate! We had the pleasure of meeting some North Berwick High School students keen on pursuing a career in Accounting. Nick and Ruth from our Finance team presented them with a real-life task involving accounting work during one of our busy outage periods. This provided the pupils with hands-on learning and gave them the experience of working with a realistic scenario, highlighting the impact of financial decisions to InterGen during these events. We had a great time sharing our expertise in this area, providing guidance to the pupils as they worked through the task, offering them a glimpse into the rewarding field of accounting and discussing how our apprenticeship program can help them to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in our dynamic industry. In celebration of #NationalCareersWeek Abi, our Operations Engineer and Joe, Electrical Engineering Apprentice from our Rocksavage team had the honor of visiting a local high school to engage with pupils eager to learn about the energy industry! We had the pleasure of educating the students about InterGen and the variety of career paths that we have to offer. During the sessions, we delved into the world of energy and mechanics, guiding them through the process of building their own functioning motor and loved sharing the excitement as they saw their creation come to life.
