📈 Rising Numbers: Law School Enrolment on the Upswing❗ Great news for the legal field – law school enrolment in the U.S. is on the rise this year! The number of applicants was up 5.7% over 2023. This year, nearly 65,000 aspiring lawyers applied for a spot this fall, making it the second-largest applicant pool of the past five years. This year’s applicant pool was also more racially diverse, with applicants of colour accounting for nearly 48% of the pool, up from 47% in 2023. With more students pursing legal education, the future of the profession looks promising! ⭐

📊 New York City Law Firms Lead the Way in 2024 According to Wells Fargo’s Mid-Year Survey, New York City-based law firms have set new benchmarks in the legal industry, outpacing their counterparts across the U.S. in several key metrics. In the first half of 2024, these firms experienced a remarkable revenue growth of up to 16.1%, a significant increase from the 1.7% seen last year. This compares impressively to the 11.4% revenue growth observed industry-wide. Productivity growth in NYC also surged to 4.1%, double the 1.5% increase seen across the entire market. The demand for legal services in NYC firms grew by 6.4%, double the 3.1% increase seen nationwide. Rate growth in these firms was also strong, reaching 9.7% compared to 8.8% market-wide. However, it's important to note that the growth in expenses and overhead for NYC firms was also higher, with overall expenses up 8.7% and overhead rising by 10.2%, compared to 7.0% and 7.3% respectively for the industry at large. These impressive figures underscore New York City's leading role in the legal sector and highlight the city's firms' ability to thrive amid a competitive landscape.
