Speakers included Joshua Amponsem, Co-Director, Youth Climate Justice Fund, and Michelle Li, Founder, clever carbon. Later in the afternoon, Global Goals Business Avengers, B Lab and Ocean Bottle co-hosted a roundtable to bring together some of the most ambitious purpose-led companies from the B Corp movement. The discussion focused on how large multinational corporates and their B Corp counterparts can take inspiration from each other’s work. Speakers included Priya C., Global Brand Director, WUKA, Galahad Clark, co-founder, Vivobarefoot and Jennie-Marie Larsen, Founder, The PI (Planetary Intelligence). The week was capped off by HSBC Asset Management hosting a reception to discuss how AI can act as an enabler in the energy transition and help improve the efficiency of renewable energy. Investors, asset owners, NGOs and representatives from the public sector explored the energy consumption of AI, the opportunities and challenges associated with using AI in the development of renewables, and the role that investors must play in driving the energy transition. The event was moderated by Christopher Marquis, Professor, Cambridge Judge Business School, and included remarks from Adam Elman, Head of Sustainability EMEA, Google, Michelle Hillman, Head of Responsible Investment and Strategy Execution, HSBC Asset Management, Scott McClurg, Head of Private Credit, HSBC Asset Management and Christophe Defert, Head of Climate Technology Investments, HSBC Asset Management. Following a successful week at Cannes, Goals House returned to our home base for a busy London Climate Action Week programme! To kickstart the week, Goals House and Climate Fresk hosted an interactive climate workshop. Attendees from various sectors turned climate science into a team game, and participants had the opportunity to work together to connect the causes and effects of the climate crisis. This empowering workshop, based on the IPCC reports, built participants’ knowledge of climate science and highlighted solutions to existing problems we face. Our opening reception was hosted by Ellen Jackowski, Chief Sustainability Officer, Mastercard, and Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Co-Chair of C40 Cities. The event, which focused on urban mobility and transitioning to more sustainable cities, also featured speakers Chapin Flynn, Senior Vice President, Transit & Urban Mobility, Mastercard; and Selwin Hart, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate and Just Transitions and Assistant Secretary-General of the Climate Action, United Nations, and performances by spoken-word artist, poet, rapped and podcast host, George The Poet Limited, and climate campaigner & Grammy-nominated DJ Jayda G. Selwin Hart and Sadiq Khan stressed the importance of cities working together on a global scale, and the urgency we face in addressing the climate crisis. As Sadiq Khan stated, “1.5 degrees isn’t a goal, it’s not a target, it’s a physical limit. We are hanging by the barest of threads for staying within that limit.” While speakers all stressed the critical need for immediate action, there was also a sense of optimism in the room with committed stakeholders from various sectors all gathered together to work towards common goals. The Earthshot Prize then closed off the evening by hosting a dinner to kick off their London Fellowship Week. For the first time, the 2023 Earthshot Prize finalists and winners are in London for London Climate Action Week, where they are experiencing a week packed with events and networking opportunities that can help them scale their businesses. At the dinner, guests toasted the family they have found within The Earthshot Prize and spoke to supporting each other’s success and growth, serving as a reminder for the value of partnership in fostering transformative change. Stay tuned for more from our packed week of programming! #SDGs #LCAW #sustainabledevelopment #Goal17

“Over 80% of the ocean remains unmapped, unobserved, and unexplored.” The theme of last week’s World Ocean’s Day was “Awakening New Depths”, which was accompanied by a global call to action to further explore our oceans. In our latest thought piece, Will Pearson, Founder & Co-CEO of Ocean Bottle, reflects on the “Missing Plastic Paradox” – the discrepancy between the quantity of plastic being discarded into the ocean, and the plastic accounted for in ocean surface waters, shorelines, and the seafloor. A valued partner of Goals House, Ocean Bottle is committed to tackling the use of single use plastics with its products - as well as deepening our understanding of the extent of the plastic crisis. Supported by Ocean Bottle, the Ocean Science Expedition this year will take a team of researchers through the Northwest Passage in the Arctic Ocean, and enable the collection of invaluable data on marine microplastics, ocean carbon dioxide, oxygen levels, seawater temperature, and salinity. We’re proud to share that the expedition team will be led by polar explorer Keith Tuffley and will receive scientific counsel from Professor Dr. Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research – valued members of our Goals House community. Please read the full article to find out more -> 🌊 👏
