Asda has partnered with Wagestream to offer a new UK-leading 4.7% AER* workplace savings account benefit, exclusively to colleagues. Unlike high street accounts offering similar rates, Asda colleagues won’t be required to deposit a fixed amount and can withdraw at any time with no fees attached. On Thursday we were delighted to welcome Andy Burnham, Mayor of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, to our Trafford Park Supercentre. During the visit we discussed Asda’s exciting growth strategy, our food waste initiatives, and how Asda is supporting colleagues' skills and learning. As well as shining a light on Asda’s fantastic Community Champions, we were also pleased to talk about our new Cashpot for Schools initiative which has raised over £1 million for primary schools nationwide in the first week!

It’s been a busy August for our Corporate Affairs team! Check out some of the exciting things they’ve been up to! ✅ We hosted Sally Jameson MP at Asda Doncaster, to meet with colleagues to discuss how we are helping our colleagues, customers and communities. We introduced Ms Jameson to Kim, her local community champion, and representatives from community groups in the area that have benefitted from Asda’s community programme. ✅ We attended a Scottish Labour business reception with Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and Scottish Labour Leader, Anas Sarwar MSP. ✅ Six motions were raised in the Scottish Parliament, welcoming Asda Foundation grants into their communities. ✅ We wrote to Margaret Mullane MP; to share the steps we have taken following the devastating fire in a tower block in Dagenham, including the more than £1000 worth of additional clothing, toiletries, and school uniforms to all those impacted by the fire. ✅ August saw the launch of IGD’s #MmmakeYourMark campaign, which aims to celebrate the wealth of career opportunities that the industry has to offer. Asda reiterated it’s support of the campaign and will continue to celebrate careers in the industry with a number of new programmes set to launch in the future. ✅ We announced that several of our optical assistant colleagues will study to become a Dispensing Optician, as part of a new apprenticeship programme Asda is supporting, and which is an industry first for the optical profession. ✅ We shared that the first of our store upgrades had been completed, as part of the £50m investment into improving customer experience through new services and features – with more stores set to be enhanced over the coming weeks.

We’re delighted to be building upon our work with DFN Project SEARCH, and offering year-long work experience placements to over 70 young adults with learning disabilities.  After a successful first year in partnership with DFN Project SEARCH and our Queensferry store, Asda is continuing to support students with learning disabilities, offering them the education, skills, and experience to set them up for future employment through its Supported Internship Programme.  Interns this year will also be wearing bespoke uniform items including t-shirts and fleeces with the message: “Happy to Help, please bear with me I’m learning” - keep an eye out and say hello if you spot a colleague wearing this item!
