They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. #Rovers 🔵⚪️

Ahead of our Remembrance fixture against Sheffield United we were proud to honour a true hero and today, on Armistice Day, he is once again in our thoughts. Former Rovers and England forward 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻 epitomised ‘for club and country’. He made 303 appearances for #Rovers, scoring 120 goals. After the cessation of league football, Latheron enlisted, joining the Royal Field Artillery as a gunner and within a week of his last match for Rovers, he was serving on the Western Front. The horror of war touched Ewood Park in October 1917 when news was brought back to Blackburn that Latheron had been killed at the Battle of Passchendaele, aged just 29. At our annual Remembrance Day fixture against Sheffield United at Ewood Park, we were delighted to be joined by Eddie’s great niece, Nikola Morgan, who led out the two teams and laid a wreath in the centre circle as a tribute to the former Rovers and England favourite. Speaking at the game, she said: “I was honoured to be asked to walk out with the wreath and there was no way I was going to say no. “This club meant an awful lot to him, because he won two league titles and played for England as well, so it was a brilliant honour for him and the family. “Football runs through the family blood in other generations and other sides of the family, who also had family killed in the War, so this time of year is of special significance to us. “We’re all incredibly proud of what Eddie achieved throughout his career and his life, and it was brilliant to be part of the club’s Remembrance commemorations today.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eVvvA9kz 🔵⚪️

The club will hold a Remembrance Day service at the ‘Rovers Remember’ memorial outside the Darwen End at Ewood Park at 11am today, as we remember and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflicts past and present. Supporters and local residents are welcome to attend the service, which will be conducted by club chaplain Ken Howles. #Rovers 🔵⚪️
