Highlights from #THS2024 | Health Forum At the Tanzania Health Summit 2024, D’Arcy Williams, Nutrition Specialist at UNICEF Tanzania, addressed the bidirectional relationship between climate change and food security. He explained how climate change worsens food poverty, leading to malnutrition, hidden hunger, and obesity. Williams also emphasized that rising CO2 levels are decreasing the nutritional quality of food, contributing to deficiencies in vital nutrients like zinc. UNICEF is working on solutions to improve children's diets through policy reforms, micronutrient supplementation, and agricultural innovation, ensuring sustainable food systems for the future. #AmrefAtTHS24 #THS2024

Highlights from #THS2024 | Health Forum At the "Strengthening Primary Health Facilities and Community Systems in Preparedness and Adaptation to Climate Change" Amref Health Africa Tanzania Forum at the 11th Tanzania Health Summit 2024, Charles D. Mwalimu, Head of Vector Control Unit at the Ministry of Health, Tanzania, highlighted how climate change is shifting the geographical distribution of vector-borne diseases. Mwalimu explained that changes in temperature and rainfall create favorable conditions for disease vectors like mosquitoes, increasing the risk of malaria. Mwalimu emphasized the importance of community-based interventions, including source reduction and education on malaria prevention strategies, to mitigate the spread of diseases. #AmrefAtTHS24 #THS2024

Highlights from #THS2024 | Health Forum Koronel Mashalla Kema, Deputy Chief of Party for USAID’s Maji Safi Project, discussed the importance of sanitation in combating climate-related diseases such as cholera at #THS2024. He emphasized the need for improved information-sharing systems to enhance planning and water management at all levels. Despite government efforts, challenges like water shortages and mudslides persist, underscoring the need for better coordination across regions to ensure communities are resilient to climate impacts. Highlights from the #THS2024 | Health Forum ----------------- At Amref Health Africa Tanzania - Forum during the 11th Tanzania Health Summit 2024, Eng. Mturi James, Mturi, Program Manager for #WASH and Climate Change at Amref Health Africa Tanzania, stressed the need for cross-sector collaboration to build climate resilience in health systems. Eng Mturi emphasised that water, a key driver of health services, is increasingly impacted by climate change. He highlighted the importance of addressing social determinants of health, strengthening institutional capacities, and empowering communities to adapt to climate change. He also shared a successful example from Hanang, where stakeholders worked together to secure water access and implement smart climate technologies to detect and prevent mudslides. #AmrefAtTHS24 #THS2024

Alisisitiza dhamira ya Amref Tanzania kwa kushirikiana na Wizara ya Afya Zanzibar katika kuboresha uzazi salama na afya ya mama na mtoto, sambamba na kupunguza vifo vya mama na mtoto katika vituo vya afya vya Zanzibar. Aidha Dkt. Florence alibainisha kuwa mpaka kufikia jana program ya Uzazi Ni Maisha imeweza kukusanya ahadi za jumla ya kiasi cha shilingi milioni 980 ambapo kati ya ahadi hizi kiasi cha shilingi milioni 740 tayari kimekusanywa na kusaidia upatikanaji wa vifaa tiba katika vituo vya afya 28.
